You Can Count on Us

Inspired by the track "Dueling Two" from the Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban video game by Jeremy Soule, I made this orchestral track to musically describe a duel between two swordsmen fighting each other using thin swords known as rapiers within a dueling match. This song features a heavy focus on the melodic side with the strings, woodwinds, and brass, showcasing more complexity and flourishing for me to go beyond the straightforward, linear way of writing music that was displayed in my previous orchestral tracks. Not to mention, the percussion, while aggressive, is slightly dialed back, and a couple of them, like the tom-toms, are purposefully given less room to thrive here in order to give minimalistic support (a la John Williams) to the rest of the orchestra this time as opposed to being at the forefront like my previous tracks. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. Let's duel!

Dueling With Rapiers (Orchestral Scoring Cue) [Original]

As the title suggests, this musical piece is based on Fate/Stay Night (the 2006 anime from a pre-KonoSuba Studio Deen I managed to binge-watch with my day-job hours in-between back in late September 2023). Do note that the beginning section of this song has Martin O'Donnell/Michael Salvatori-esque vibes (most notably, Halo: Reach). I started working on this piece on a Saturday night and finished working on it that Sunday evening—a day, basically. Don't let the higher octaves on the strings, choir, and piano fool you. While it sounds optimistic and upbeat, in reality, it's meant to evoke sadness and the pure loss of tenderness that Saber tries to reclaim for herself. It also acts as a companion piece for last year's Jeremy Soule-esque memorial piece, "Holo Batmos." So sit back, relax in a quiet rain, have a calm sword by your side, and enjoy this sad but tender piece.

*The harp used for this piece is from ProjectSAM Orchestral Essentials this time instead of my preferred harp from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, as Orchestral Essentials' reverb effect makes the instrument loud and clear enough to be heard through the song's dynamic range.

Saber In The Rain (Orchestral Scoring Cue) [Original]

I made this piece as a birthday present for one of my relatives. While this piece is a tad rushed as it was completed in a day (hence why I didn't add a bit of reverb and utilize multitrack mixing), this piece is a nice homage to church music that I grew up listening (and singing) at church. Also, the song's section sequence consists of an Intro, The A section, the B section, and finally a reprise of the A section with a slight alteration of the ending. All written in D Major.

Love And Warmth (Orchestral Scoring Cue) [Original]

Inspired by Jeremy Soule & Julian Soule's SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs (2002) soundtrack (mostly notably with the tracks: smus05H2 and smus027), I composed this piece with an emphasis on militaristic crossfire action, but with shurikens (hence that Naruto coat of paint for this song). This song suffers from my ongoing writer's block (hence why it took days longer for it to be finished than originally intended), but luckily it only happened after I finished the strings, brass, and woodwinds. Also, I bought a new French horn library from BigFishAudio [name below in the instrument list] as my libraries lacked a proper and more useable horn ripping effect that I have become fond of after hearing Kevin Manthei pull it off in his video game soundtracks (Dead To Rights (2002) and Ultimate Spider-Man (2005) come to mind when I think of that effect). While lacking that master EQ, it's still more efficient in saving the time of recreating said horn rip by trimming notes, etc. Also, because my Brass Long + Staccato multi instrument doesn't have consistent volume leveling in the higher octaves (mostly on the trumpets), I decided to use one of my trumpet SF2 instruments [again, name below] that will sound just as effective to overdub the Brass Long + Staccato multi's trumpet octaves to make it stand out as opposed to being muddied in-between with woodwinds being the main note-by-note overdub like my previous songs, though it is still being utilized here, albeit for time constraints.

Shuriken Action (Orchestral Scoring Cue) [Original]

My final track of 2023. After spending 3 hours playing Fate/Samurai Remnant, I made this wild percussion track in a few hours, consisting of nothing but Japanese percussion, complete with New World drums and Djembe drums to add non-Japanese flavor to an already Japanese-esque track. Plus, it's quicker to get it done right before I go on a short New Year's vacation, which will lead to 2024 commencing. That's about it. Happy New Year to all of you listening to my music in 2023!

Recently, I've been thinking about going through my project files, which are full of unfinished or unrealized songs that I have yet to finish. So here's a short track that (as the title suggests) revolves around going in stealth mode. Come to think of it, maybe I'll make follow-ups as musical outcomes. We'll see.

La Vraie Frappe

Spending close to 30 hours playing Fate/Samurai Remnant was a huge treat to behold! So much so that I made another short Japanese-esque song with the word "Samurai" on it. This time, it focuses on the dark, albeit softer side of being a Samurai: taking a long sleep when nighttime commences. Also, that four-note coda from my previous song, "Saber In The Rain," makes an appearance at the end—a nice musical fan service [BA DUM TSS].

Ending January off with a sad, but honorable coda to ProjectSAM's wildly-used, longtime percussion library True Strike, True Strike 2 has already been discontinued in 2022. Why is ProjectSAM phasing out True Strike (almost) completely? Because they made a new percussion library as a future replacement and successor to True Strike called "Lineage Percussion." So this composition, which only uses brass and percussion, suits this well, as it honors the long-lasting impact and appeal of this True Strike percussion library made for both popular & upcoming composers, as its sounds can be heard in countless movies, TV shows, and video games. Am I going to find a new percussion library now that True Strike has been put to rest? Well, I have to think about it, especially in terms of time, money, and my PC's resources. Rest in peace, True Strike (2003/2004-2024). To quote legendary film composer James Newton Howard, “True Strike is a permanent part of my palette.”
*Originally, the song's name was going to be "Farewell Coda For Foxes And Percussion," but I decided to replace the word "foxes" with "brass" because it suits the song's instrumentation and melodic color better. This song was made in 2 hours.
