Making improvised acid techno symphonies on the fly, with only a drum machine and some synths, then adding jazz piano on top? Surely not.
Lets pull back the curtain on live, improvised techno.
The 158th Episode of the improvised, jammed-from-scratch, live techno-with-jazzy-sprinkles improvised show is here. 

It's entirely made up from scratch, started from zero, no pre-programmed sequences, loops or anything. Join me as I try and come up with a set off the top of my head using synths, drum machines and a looper, and layer jazzy sprinkles of electronic jazz piano over the top.

Techno (live) with Jazzy Sprinkles - Episode 158

This DJ mix set was inspired by my years of admiration of Richie Hawtin and his truly unique mixing style.  My recent trip to Amsterdam for ADE and being able to catch a portion of one his sets inspired me to create something different than what I usually do.  I've been listening to Richie for decades both live and online. His one-of-a-kind sound has always amazed me.. While I'm not the artistic genius he is and also don't have his truly unique gear selection for performances, I've done my best representation here of his style:  mixing 4-on the floor, proper and somewhat classic sounding techno with lots of quick cuts, surprise transitions and no shortage of effects and "DJ tricks".  This set starts average paced at just under 140 BPM but soon ramps up to faster (than my normal) at over 150 BPMs. I hope you enjoy this set and my attempt to emulate a legend.  p.s.  I screwed up on saving my mix set track IDs so unfortunately I am unable to list those but reach out to me on Instagram where I'm known as Octoplus_DJ and I'll be glad to share some Beatport playlists with you were I pulled these tracks from.

Raised in Ełk (Szyba), cyd is an electronic music artist known for his genre-bending approach and experimental sound design. Over the years, he has released a wide range of electronic works that explore the boundaries between IDM, ambient, experimental, industrial, and techno. His eclectic albums and EPs have found homes on respected labels such as Subsist, ARTS, and E-Missions, earning him recognition within the underground electronic music scene.

In addition to his studio work, cyd is active as both a live performer and DJ, bringing his atmospheric and dynamic sets to festivals, clubs, and theatres. Recently, he expanded his creative scope by composing the original soundtrack for the video game Neuroza, further showcasing his ability to merge sound and emotion through immersive sonic storytelling.

cyd is a co-founder of Solemne Records, a label dedicated to exploring the deeper, more introspective side of electronic music and supporting forward-thinking artists across diverse styles.

I discovered the sound of techno back in the mid-1990s. It enraptured me to the point I never forgot it. I started my DJ and production path up again in 2024 after a nearly 30 year break. 

DYNOHUNTER is the tribal techno project of DJ, producer, and saxophonist Clark Smith, blending ancient rhythms with futuristic soundscapes. Layering syncopated percussion, hypnotic grooves, and searing synths over deep rolling basslines, DYNOHUNTER conjures sonic rituals that blur the line between primal instinct and dance floor surrender.

Fueled by raw intensity, Smith’s music pulses with trance inducing energy—both sacred ceremony and sweat-drenched rave. His tenor saxophone shimmers like a flame in the night, a bold human voice cutting through the lush shadowed depths of his tribal soundscapes.

At its core, DYNOHUNTER is a fierce celebration of the primal and the untamed, an invitation to lose yourself in the wild, the mystical, and the timeless rhythm within.
