The Last Days of Pompeii, AKA Ru Stewart, is an Edinburgh based producer, DJ and record enthusiast. Having cut his teeth DJing in his hometown of Aberdeen - as an eclectic music lover and avid record collector - has been building his vinyl collection over the past 10 years. His DJ sets consist of classics, rare jams and forgotten gems from a diverse range of styles - in particular boogie, groove, house and disco. He’s quickly growing a solid fanbase with his energetic mixes and ease at weaving between styles and hosts a monthly radio show “The Wow! Signal” on “It’s Not Radio”. His passion for vinyl and music now sees him cutting records for local musicians, DJs and producers. 

In the studio Ru writes and records on an array of 80s synths and drum machines while the live
show features him at the helm of loops, synths and live drums; able to remix tracks on the fly
and adapt to the personality of the crowd.
 
His well-received debut release “Make Me Believe” on “Fresh Take Records'' was followed up by “LXXXVIII” on “Precog Records”, and a stack of self-releases on his Bandcamp. While his dance floor heater “A Taste of Honey - Ain’t Nothing But A Party Edit” on “Disco Express” received support from such acts as Dirty Channels. This was followed up with his heavy hitting Xpress Edits Vol 9 EP and with his latest EP 'Sizzlin' on "Underground Sound" gaining BBC Introducing and Radio 1 airplay - “The Last Days of Pompeii” is definitely one to watch.

Look Busy RhythmCast 172 - The Last Days of Pompeii (The Disco Express)

This week we welcome a true selector and LBC favourite on the podcast!  Paul sent over these words about his musical journey to date;

I began buying records as a young teenager in the mid to late 70s, starting off with Soul, Funk and Disco, partly due to my Dad’s influence and taste, as he loved bands like Earth Wind & Fire, War and The Isley Brothers etc, but also through listening to tastemaker radio DJ’s like Robbie Vincent and Greg Edwards, as well as the numerous black music pirate radio stations of the day, and club DJs such as Froggy, Chris Hill and Bob Jones. My tastes grew to include Jazz, Latin and Fusion, and with a passion for new cutting-edge music developing, early Hip Hop and Electro, what is now known as Boogie, then in 1985…  HOUSE!

I started DJ’ing out in the early 80s, mainly at friends parties, progressing to warm ups at local Soul nights, before getting residencies at bars in London and Birmingham, and playing guest spots all over the UK and beyond.  

I was also co-organiser and one of the resident DJs at The Sands, the ‘pop-up’ gig across the road @Southport Weekender, which we did for 9 years until it moved to the new site in Minehead and am honoured to have played at the legendary Southport Weekenders since. I am also partnered with Nick Ferrara promoting Basement 108, a quarterly night in Glasgow, dedicated to Soulful Deep & House, where we’ve welcomed the cream of UK DJs like Neil Pierce, The Journey Men, Groove Assassin and Craig Smith to play for our knowledgeable crowd. 

I have also enjoyed many years doing internet radio before settling at STARPOINT RADIO where I can play all the music I love, always with a focus on new releases from contemporary Soul and Jazz, and the many shades of House music thru to vintage grooves from the 70s and 80s.

Overtracked is the artist name of Michael Engel from the Netherlands. Growing up in the house and techno scene in Zeeland and Rotterdam, he has become an established name in these regions over the years. Overtracked started producing electronic music at a young age.

He has now released 2 studio albums and many singles and EPs. His sound is often characterized by punchy kicks, stabs and synths combined with acid sounds. This can also often be heard in his live sets. He has had releases on labels such as Armada, Inly, Nopreset Limited, Reshape Black, IWant Music, Kief Music and much more.
Besides deejaying and producing, Overtracked also has its own event called Housekult. He does this together with Benjamin Scott and has existed since 2016 and is usually held in the province of Zeeland in the Netherlands.

In 2021 he founded his own label called OVT Records. Here he releases many of his own tracks and releases tracks of people from his circle of connections.
