Joseph Rudyard Kipling, un escritor y poeta británico nacido en 1865 en Bombay, es el autor de esta fascinante historia. Además de sus relatos, cuentos, libros infantiles y poesía, Kipling es conocido por otras obras populares, como la colección de relatos El libro de la selva (1894), la novela de espionaje Kim (1901) y los poemas Gunga Din (1892) y Si (1895).

Con numerosas adaptaciones cinematográficas, Joseph Rudyard Kipling fue galardonado con el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1907, convirtiéndose en el primer escritor británico en recibir este prestigioso premio y el más joven hasta la fecha.

El libro de la selva (Audiolibro)

"The Vampire" is a photoplay composition by Sol P. Levy (1881-1920) published in 1917. Today it sounds more akin to a theme for a mobster saga than a batcentric horror fest, but the theme is alluring nonetheless. And, as it turns out, it probably was not intended to be used for a horror film.

Most film buffs reference "Nosferatu – Eine Symphonie des Grauens" (Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror) as the first vampire film. Murnau's expressionist classic may well be the first vampire horror film, but it was released in 1922, five years later than the publication of this composition.

The most likely explanation is that Levy's composition finds its origin not in the Transylvanian mountains, but in a poem by Rudyard Kipling, written to accompany a painting by Philip Burne-Jones named the Vampire. The painting depicts a femme fatale and her victim -- it's suggestive, but there's nothing supernatural about it. Kipling's poem and Burne-Jones' painting also inspired a theatrical play, and then in 1913 a silent film, "The Vampire". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Vampire_(1913_film). However, there is no direct link between this composition and the film -- the composition is subtitled "A Dramatic Theme".

This new recording of Levy's "The Vampire" was produced by @MLucas for Public Resource using Optical Music Recognition (OMR). Original printed music for a theater orchestra was scanned and then converted to music XML. Next the individual parts were assembled into a score in a professional music notation program. Then the edited score was exported to MIDI and applied to sampled orchestral instruments. This version adheres closely to Levy's original music, with frequent tempo changes.

1. The “Self-Appointed Enforcer” Archetype

G.I. Robot embodies a recurring archetype.

The enforcer who believes they’re restoring order, but whose programming; or ideology; makes them blind to nuance.

He claims moral authority; he “protects” the system from perceived evil, but his methods mirror those he condemns; targeting, deleting, erasing.

G.I. Robot was literally built as a weapon of war; a moral automaton told who the “bad guys” are. Once unleashed, it never asks why it fights, only who.

In the end, the crusader and the monster start to look the same; each convinced they’re the hero.

2. Automation of Judgment

The modern digital enforcer runs on social scripts; not only code, but in-group social instincts.
“You’re bad. We’re good. We will purge.”

G.I. Robot is the same script but in code and metal.
Both lack adaptive empathy; they enforce instead of understand.
That’s how moral automation becomes a mechanized empathy failure, powered by self-righteous subroutines.

3. Moral Outsourcing

The moderating mind-set and the military automaton share the same purpose; to outsource responsibility.

“Let the algorithm handle it.”
“Let the robot fight the bad guys.”
“Let someone else keep the world clean.”

Each reveals the deeper desire to automate morality; to clean the chaos without confronting it.
That’s where corruption seeps in. Once morality is mechanized, no one’s left to question it.

4. The Irony

In both man and machine, the “protector” becomes parody.

“I fight monsters!” by being one.

It’s a feedback loop of performative virtue; flashing the signal of justice while running on aggression.

5. The Narrative

G.I. Robot as a symbol of the modern algorithmic crusader.
A machine built to defend order, now policing ghosts in a decaying internet battlefield; fighting shadows, fighting itself.

It stands as a metaphor for our age of automated judgment; convinced it’s saving the system while quietly deleting the human element that made it worth saving.
