Over the three decades that I knew him I was a fan, a friend and eventually partner in A Love From Outer Space. The body of work he left behind runs into many, many hundreds of tracks and covers just about every musical genre known to humanity,  (which of course reflects his relentless creative curiosity and spirit). I decided in the end not to overthink it, and just to roll with a concoction of my favourites, and, as Andrew would have said, tried not to make the joins too obvious..."

February 17 will mark the fifth anniversary of Andrew Weatherall’s tragic death. Three days before that, Material Music will release A Love from Outer Space, a compilation compiled and mixed by  Sean Johnston, who DJed and ran the A Love from Outer Space club night with Weatherall. It features 19 songs that capture the essence of the club night, many of them exclusive. I spoke to Sean about the new album, about London 88 Acid House madness, 122 BPM limits, all-time ALFOS anthems and DJing at ALFOS days after Weatherall’s passing. I hope you enjoy it. @andrew-weatherall (@rotters_golf_club) - Andrew Weatherall’s extraordinary twenty-five year career in music has been characterised by a series of unique partnerships, with twenty albums, thirty or so EPs and singles plus more than two hundred and fifty remixes under his belt. Bastion of the underground, Andrew has set up record labels, remixed in collaboration with artists including Paul Oakenfold on Happy Monday's Hallelujah and has brought a distinctive flavour to hundreds of other artists. Remixes led to a smattering of production duties.  Andrew only rarely wears the producer hat but on each occasion, from Primal Scream’s 1991 Screamadelica to 2009’s Tarot Sport by Fuck Buttons, the results are outstanding.  This year he released one album as The Woodleigh Research Facility (with Nina Walsh) and one under his own name, titled 'Convenanza' after the festival he curates each September in Carcassonne.  A remix album of the tracks from Convenanza will follow in October.

If you were there, you'll know what a fantastic journey it was amongst the smoke and strobes. Hard to think of another dance-floor experience like ALFOS that locks you in for the duration with such thrilling music. If you missed out, we recorded the whole thing. Hailing from London, Sean Johnston is one half of the infamous "A Love From Outer Space" duo alongside Andrew Weatherall and also part of Hardway Bros. Described as an "Acid-House Veteran, Techno Survivor and Alpinist" he has released plenty of records on labels and outfits such as Throne Of Blood, Sabres Of Paradise, Luna Flicks, Astro Lab or IsItBalearic?!

Clandestino have been involved in Leeds' underground music scene for over 20 years; regularly throwing diverse parties and inviting exciting DJ talent.
