My latest entry to the FB ComposerMovie Character Challenge #21 - Hannibal Lecter

For this challenge, I've tried to insinuate Hannibal Lecter's madness in the introduction of the composition. I busy myself to imagine that in his head, it is an organized chaos. A mind that is so intelligent and yet is incredibly manifested with intention to harm another individual without feeling any remorse nor emotion. He's a horrifying monster disguised with a face of a trained professional and with the elegance of an impeccable artist.

My latest entry to the FB ComposerMovie Character Challenge #22 - The Theme for Hua Mulan

I've composed for this challenge a theme music for Hua Mulan (花木蘭), an ancient heroic fictional character. I originally though that it would be an easier effort for me to handle the use of the Chinese instruments vst because, well, I'm Chinese, from HK... Thinking that after watching so many Asian movies and TV drama series over the years that involved history and Kung Fu, I shouldn't have too much issue manipulating the tunes. Boy, was I wrong!

As elegant as these instruments are, having them sounding "right" with vst is an absolute hard deed. It took me a while to piece the modulations together in order to make them sounding like they should, that is, in real life.

Meanwhile, composing music for the character of Mulan is another tough nut! He was a she and the music has to reflect the both sexes in order to portray the character.

My latest entry to the FB Composer Movie Character Challenge #23 - The Theme for Mad Max (aka Max Rockatansky)

I've composed a theme music for the Mad Max character. As an introduction, I wanted to induce a brief mental image into the audiences' heads as per horror of a nuclear holocaust. The rest of the score shall reflect the brutality and heroism of Max as he roamed aimlessly in the wasteland.  He became a titular hero in all the encounters of various pockets of desperately surviving civilizations.

This is a composition that I've created for the Image Challenge (20250103) of the FB Composer Challenge Group. It is also my first attempt to compose a classical piece, more specifically a piano concerto.

I've chosen a classical approach because that was how the image resonated to me. A monotone portrait of a young woman that looks like it was torn from a large fresco painting. Her expression summoned melancholy and regrets. The cracks and ripped edges of the image suggested a broken history of her past and yet her elegance hasn't been completely annihilated in the present.

My latest entry to the FB Composer Movie Character Challenge #24 - A Theme based on the characters in Mission Impossible franchise.

I've composed a theme music for the entire Impossible Mission Force (IMF), the organization that Ethan Hunt is working under. The first instrument that came to my mind was the electric guitar. I wanted to establish a fast-paced, exciting and on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of rhythm that will resembles the over-the-top actions of the franchise. I've also tried to use electric guitar more often these days because of the edginess of its sound. Previously for Mad Max and now for the IMF.

A composer who does not know how to read & write note music, nor to play any musical instrument.  Thanks to modern technology though, I've found the midi tools & VST Instruments to transfer the music from my busy head to actual audible tunes.
