昨年リリースされ現在もロングセラーの”白夜をイメージした”コンピレーション 『Iceland White Night』に続く第2弾。今回は”アイスランドの薄暗い朝”をイメージし、ベッドルームでお昼までのゆっくりとした時間を演出してくれる楽曲を収録。

If one is searching for a beacon of light in Lost Tribe Sound’s undeniably dark roster of releases this year, look no further.  The Green Kingdom’s new full-length album ’The North Wind and the Sun’ is like a cool breeze on a heated summer day.  Perhaps music this gentle feels out of place, even glutinous, given the currently harsh climate of the world, yet the truth may be that we need it now more than ever.  Music like this offers an opportunity to pause, to regain our center, to shift focus towards bettering our surroundings versus cursing them.

Of course, here at headquarters we pondered what would happen if Cottone abandoned the majority of his electronic equipment and limited his arsenal to nearly all acoustic instrumentation? It’s a similar question to the one we proposed to Cock & Swan back in the day, with their exceptional album ‘Stash’. Asking Cottone kindly, he obliged. After a number of months of trial and error TGK delivered us this experiment, titled 'The North Wind and The Sun.' We were floored, not only is the music still undeniably that of The Green Kingdom, it seems to exude a new sense of wonder and confidence. 

'The North Wind and the Sun' is the aural equivalent of the fondest, hazy memories gleamed from childhood days past. The melodies are playful and comforting like womb-filtered lullabies. While this new delivery may shock some familiar with TGK’s previous outings, Cottone seems quite comfortable with this new primarily acoustic set of sounds, inventing his own heart-warming brand of Americana. 

That said, the music pays respects to its roots, no doubt recalling the more pastoral, primitive works of William Ryan Fritch and Western Skies Motel, the woozy mechanically-inclined folk of Boards of Canada or Part Timer, the bright, sincere melodies of Amiina or mbira virtuoso Richard Crandell. Throughout the thirteen song album, 'The North Wind and the Sun,' The Green Kingdom gives us a very intimate look behind the curtain, one brimming with personality, a tender collection of homespun reveries one can tell has been building in Cottone’s mind for years. This is a rare and sublime new direction for TGK, one we hope he continues to develop upon for years to come.

amiina is a band based in Reykjavík Iceland. At present the band counts five people - Hildur Ársælsdóttir, María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir, Magnús Trygvason Eliassen and Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson (aka Kippi Kaninus).
The group's origins go back to the late 1990s, when four girls studying string instruments at the Reykjavík College of Music formed a string quartet. The group started out playing classical music, but increasingly moved on to play all sorts of music with various bands in Reykjavík.
In 1999 the quartet joined Icelandic band Sigur Rós on-stage. The collaboration continued for over a decade, with amiina contributing strings to Sigur Rós’ music on tour and in the recording studio on the albums ( ) , Takk, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust and Valtari.
In 2004, amiina’s first EP, AnimaminA, was released, followed by the single “Seoul” (2006), the full-length album Kurr (2007), a Lee Hazlewood collaboration on a 7” vinyl Hilli (at the Top of...) (2008) and the limited release EP Re Minore (2009). In the autumn of 2007, drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen joined amiina on tour, adding percussion to the band’s textures. A few months later, collaboration between the electronic artist Kippi Kaninus and amiina was established while preparing a show together for the Reykjavík Arts Festival. The merging of Kippi Kaninus' electronics and rhythms with amiina's sounds and Magnús' percussion became the starting point for more established collaboration between the six musicians.
amiina’s second long playing album, the much acclaimed Puzzle, was released by the band in 2010 in Iceland, getting worldwide distribution the following year. The songs on Puzzle are more rhythmically rugged than amiina's previous work and feature heavier use of electronics. amiina's long-standing fondness for zero-g melodies and open-minded instrumentation, however, continues.
In 2009 amiina started to perform their original soundtracks to pioneering German filmmaker Lotte Reiniger's 1930's silhouette animations of the timeless fairy tales Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Aladdin. The so called Animagica program, originally performed at the Branchage film festival in Jersey, has now been put on show at Art festivals around the world.
The band released The Lighthouse Project in 2013, a work centered around some performances given in Icelandic lighthouses.
In between work with amiina and growing ever larger families, band members have also kept themselves busy, recording or touring with other artist such as Sigur Rós, Yann Tiersen, Spiritualized, Efterklang, Damien Rice, Yukihiro Takahasi, Canon Blue, Pétur Ben, Ben Forst Tilbury, Borko, múm, Jónsi & Alex, Kippi Kaninus, adhd, Moses Hightower and Sin Fang to name a few.

amiina's new album - Fantômas - will be released in November 2016. The release is inspired by the 1913 film Fantômas 2, which amiina is currently touring with an original live score.

Capturing the sound and texture of decay, and the melancholy associated with nostalgia and faded memory, Limerence makes ambient electronica best suited for the forgotten hours of the night, celebrating the intimacy, fear, vastness, and overwhelming beauty felt within liminal space.

Lost Tribe Sound is a record label that specializes in organic and exploratory sound. Lost Tribe Sound admires music that leaves its tattered edges proudly in place, acoustic instrumentation blended seamlessly with dirty mechanics, timeworn sound worlds rooted in the muck and the mire of the present. The sound generally falls along the lines of bizarrely rhythmic, beautifully decayed electro-acoustic music, often with a reverence for low-end. LTS focuses on full-length albums, with a strong commitment to well-made packaging. The aim is to unearth timeless music that pushes the envelope of modern composition while paying homage to the ancient.
