A clinically-informed guided rest practice designed to ground the nervous system and counter the cold, mobile qualities of Vata dosha. This protocol uses extended stillness, weighted containment, and systematic body awareness to anchor scattered energy and dissolve the characteristic Vata patterns of anxiety, racing thoughts, and restless exhaustion.
Unlike traditional yoga nidra, this practice addresses Vata's specific constitutional needs through:

Longer rest duration to allow the nervous system to truly settle. Grounding cues that emphasize heaviness, warmth, and downward movement. Minimal rotation or complexity in attention—staying with simple, repetitive anchors. Focus on containment and boundary rather than expansion. Strategic use of breath awareness to regulate without stimulating

Ideal for those experiencing: insomnia, anxiety, creative burnout, difficulty landing after travel, overwhelm from too many inputs, scattered attention, or the wired-but-tired state that comes from prolonged Vata imbalance.

Props recommended: Weighted blanket, extra layers for warmth, eye cover, support under knees.

After years of clinical practice, I kept seeing the same pattern: people try yoga nidra and either fall into a dead sleep, get more anxious, or feel nothing at all. That's because traditional yoga nidra treats all nervous systems the same. Your nervous system has a constitution. A Vata person spiraling with anxiety needs something fundamentally different than a Kapha person stuck in depression or a Pitta person burning out from relentless drive. These protocols address those differences.

I created Doshic Deep Rest as a clinical alternative—three separate practices built from Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis and years of watching what actually works in real bodies. They use the therapeutic structure of guided rest without the lineage baggage, designed specifically for the nervous system patterns I see in practice: scattered and anxious (Vata), driven and inflamed (Pitta), or heavy and stagnant (Kapha). Not generic relaxation. Constitutional nervous system regulation.
