Maud Geﬀray and Sébastien Chenut, aka Scratch Massive, have been active since 2003. This year sees them return with another standout full-length ‘Nox Anima’ which was composed and recorded in Los Angeles and is a haunted world of slow and intense rhythms and vocals. It comes after previous albums 'Nuit de Rêve' in 2011, which featured the likes of Jimmy Somerville, Daniel Agust of GusGus and Koudlam and picked up more than 14m streams, and 2018's 'Garden Of Love' with over 20m streams and syncs to brands and TV shows like Yves Saint Laurent, Lancôme and Emily in Paris. This new album marks a fresh chapter for the duo, who have already left an indelible mark on French electronic music with their dreamlike and melancholic sound that brims with poetry and cinematic flair while having one foot in techno and the other in cold wave.

Carl Finlow has been a prolific and innovative producer for more than 30 years. Across hundreds of releases and a variety of monikers, he has explored every niche and mastered the art of making his machines talk to mind, body and soul. His sounds have come on cult outlets like Avoidant Records, 20/20 Vision and Syncrophone, and this marks his debut on bORDEL Records.

His ice-cold and funky analogue spin on 'You Can’t Hide' pairs electro rhythms that draw from greats like Model 500 and Kraftwerk with the majestic vocals of the award-winning French singer-songwriter Jeanne Added. They bring a calming soul to corrugated kicks and snappy snares that cut through the rumbling, gritty bass to make for a cinematic sound. An instrumental is more stripped and dark, so the bass takes on a menacing presence.

PREMIERE: Scratch Massive - You Can't Hide feat. Jeanne Added (Carl Finlow Remix) [bORDEL Records]

Nicolas Foucault launched his project Grey Satori in early 2020. His compositions blend the melancholic textures of new wave with the hypnotic pulse of electro but also draw on his fascination with moody indie. He has co-authored a book on the seminal album ‘The Queen Is Dead’ by The Smiths and also founded and curates a webzine dedicated to alternative music, where he conducts in-depth interviews with key figures from the underground scene.

Magnificent lead single 'No Regrets' is crushingly introspective with hints of Joy Division angst in the wallowing guitars, but subtle hope in the retro-future chords and chugging bassline. Sombre vocal whispers add to the mournful mood and make this a beautiful but heartbroken hymn. 'Drift' is a deliciously dark disco and dub fusion with twinkling synth modulations and a swirling, menacing low end that slowly uplifts. 'Dark Frequency' unfolds like a slow-burning lament, but there is beauty in the despair. Wallowing, reverb-soaked chords drift in layers while cold, mechanical drum patterns echo with the detached precision of early post-punk. It’s haunting, desolate, but utterly magnetic.

Remixer NEWEM has long been exploring the intersection of futuristic and melancholic electronic music, not least on his ‘Moonpark’ album in 2022. He again channels a love of shadowy synth sounds and the cosmos here by flipping 'No Regrets' into slow motion but heavyweight dub. Distant celestial pads add scale while churning bass and sci-fi eﬀects transport you to another world.

Grey Satori's 'Fading Lights EP' lands on bORDEL Records on 5th September 2025 with preceding single ‘No Regrets’ on June 20th and the NEWEM remix on July 4th.

“Garden of Love” is 5 years old. 5 years that his songs have accompanied us, like evidence. The 4th album of Scratch Massive entered our intimacy, met its audience, a large audience, and the passage of time has succeeded. His romantic and dark compositions - we can cite "Last Dance", "Sunken" or "Dancer in the Dark" - have become classics that we have heard as soundtracks on feature films, series and fashion shows. “Last Dance” sung by Maud Geffray has become a cult and transgenerational title by illustrating the first kiss of Elliot and Lucas, the two heroes of the teen series “Skam”.

To celebrate the 5th anniversary of "Garden Of Love", Scratch Massive offers us here a Deluxe version containing 5 unreleased tracks, recorded in Los Angeles during the album's studio sessions. There we find the majestic “Love Streams” Feat Grindi Manberg in its sung and instrumental version. Then come 2 unreleased demos of "Pray" by the group, and finally "Hollywood Boulevard", a nighttime ballad in a fantasy L.A., the city where the album "Garden of Love" was thought and composed.

This Deluxe anniversary version skilfully completes the group's 4th LP and makes us wait before the next one, scheduled for 2024.
