Ryck is a DJ & producer from Berne who started DJing in 1997 after being bitten by the Drum&Bass bug at the United Tribes Raves. Playing bass & guitar in bands beforehand and continuously working in the studio on different projects he wanted to have a go at the music himself, fascinated by the sounds of Goldie and the Moving Shadow label and rave tapes of A.W.O.L., Telepathy and Helter Skelter.
In the last two decades Ryck regularly played at Swiss D&B events such as Darkside at Dachstock in Berne or Mute at Hive in Zürich. After being in involved in RaBass 95.6, a monthly Drum&Bass only show on Berne alternative radio RaBe, hosted by pionnering local DJ Lockee, he established the regular Bern Bass Podcast series in 2014 together with Konfront.Audio, Markee & Lockee and is co-promoting the Liquid Session event series at Dachstock in Berne. In 2020 he founded the Bandcamp-only Bern Bass Records label to feature Swiss producers exclusively.

Konfront.Audio is the DJ & production brothers combo of Twist & Simstah. The brothers started out as DJs in the early 90s with a strong interest in Hip-Hop and Electronic music. As time progressed they established themselves playing at various events in Berne and in all of Switzerland such as Darkside at Dachstock, Mute at Hive or at the Streetparade-Festival name but a few. The brothers also work successfully in the studio and released their music on landmark labels such as Fokuz and Soul Deep.

Lockee is one of the ﬁrst generation of Drum&Bass-DJs in Switzerland and is a resident DJ at Liquid Sessions and Darkside at Dachstock in Berne. Starting out in 1994 as the youngster of the United Tribes agency he soon played at pivotal events all over Switzerland such as the Goliath Rave (Roggwil), Rohstofﬂager (Zürich), Usine (Geneva) and also had a residency at the long-running Bierhübeli events of both United Tribes & Restless promotion companies on from 1997 to 2006. At that time he also helped to establish Drum FM, one of the ﬁrst Swiss Drum&Bass radioshows on alternative Radio Berne. Besides regular gigs all over Switzerland and abroad, hosting own events such as "Les Liquides" at Les Amis in Berne, Lockee also started working on his own music in '99 which led to releases on Mindstorm and Vampire Records. In 2005 he launched "RaBass 95.6 FM" on rabe.ch, one of the major and longest-running Swiss D&B radioshows.

"I made my way through the rave scene...
Growing up in Zürich's countryside, caught between Hip Hop and Techno, doing Graffiti on trains and playing Trance, in the early 90ies.
At 15 I started to DJ in our youth centre on two Technics MKII. I always watched „MTV Saturday Night Dance“, where the likes of SL2, Altern8 and The Prodigy were featured. When I heard DJ Hype doing the closure set at Energy 94 at Hallenstadion it just was the perfect mixture of all my musical tastes, the answer to all questions.
Records were hard to find then, so mainly Happy Breakbeat and Hardcore filled the box. As an up & coming DJ of the second rave generation I got to be a resident at the White Wolf Raves from 96 to 98 and lots of other events.
Around 98 I met Led Tampi, one of the titans of Switzerland's Jungle DJs and then became a part of Zürich’s legendary „Metropolitan Bass Scientists“ alongside Mad B, Crazee Bo, Max S, Led Tampi and MC Riddimflrt.
MBS were the counterpart to Switzerland’s biggest and most influential crew, United Tribes from Berne.  Sadly, both crews dissolved around the millennium but a new collective came out of it, The Engine with Lockee, Fine Style, Led Tampi, and MC Fight. Their events at Bierhübeli in Berne in the early 2000s are legendary. Drum & Bass really had its prime back then. There were many other crews like Score Inc, Blackout & RG Promotions, Mute, Tension State, FMI, JUR… and so many others!
After playing at basically all Swiss venues and raves of the era and in Czech Republic regularly, even at „Let it Roll 10“ I stepped back to focus on my job career.  At this time technology for DJs changed from analog to digital, but I decided not to go on with CDJ’s and refused to make this step. I've never stopped listening to D&B, once it’s in your DNA, you can’t stop listening to it, as you probably know.... I am super happy and honored to do this mix for Berne Bass Podcast so that I can share favorites of my vinyl collection and have a few words.
Drum & Bass definitely has stood the test of time, although not a lot of people believed in its future back in the days... So BIG UP all of the massive and youth, new breed and crews that runs our beautiful culture today. Let D&B thrive on forever!"

Bern Bass Podcast 101 - DJ Impact (Swiss National Day Special 2023)

Juan aka Juandroid, resident DJ and member of Zürich’s Divercity crew got hooked on Drum&Bass in 2006 when he heard “The Trip” by Logistics on Hospital Records, the first track to introduce him to the genre.
He has been DJing steadily for twelve years, showcasing his broad taste of different styles and musical genres in his varied sets that range from Rollers to the more mellow styles and the sparse oldschool classic. 
Juandroid regards his residency at the Swiss Hospitality-series as his personal career highlight, since it’s always taking him back to those early days of falling in love with the music. 
We are happy to feature Juandroid’s first podcast in our series and look forward to hear him play out much more in the future.

Delilah, a tiny person with a big heart and a lot of energy. As a member of Divercity Crew from Zürich she's playing regularly at their events and if not she’s making videos of everyone.
She used to be a dancer on many stages and discovered DJing a few years ago. In a short time, she was supporting act for artists like Culture Shock, Subfocus, Benny Page, TC, Vibe Chemistry and Ed:It to name but a few. Delilah’s sets are versatile and full of surprises because she likes to experiment with differents styles and genres. Laughing, sweating and dancing is what you can expect when Delilah is behind the decks, you’ll know why she got the nickname „Bouncing Ball“. She likes to select tracks to take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Close your eyes, let go end enjoy the ride. Whether melodic, raucous or simply gripping, her aim is to leave you with a memory. Zürich-born-and-bred family man DJ SQUASH first got in touch with UK Breakbeat, Jungle and House through regular listening to pivotal Swiss radiostation Couleur3 at the tender age of 14 in the very early 90s. 
This led to regular vinyl shopping at the infamous local Mono Records store, and he didn’t get rid off the addiction to this very day!
After practising intensely for several years, SQUASH started to run his own outdoor parties and was a regular face at Bogen13 (for those that remember!) playing everything from Downbeat to Liquid, or Intelligent D&B as it was called in those days…
Around the millennium he joined the legendary MUTE crew, one of the most important and active crews of the exploding Swiss D&B scene of the time. As a resident he played at the most important clubs such as Hive, Moods and Dachkantine and at radiostations and raves all over Switzerland. He was a support act for countless international guests such as Marcus Intalex RIP, Calibre, Alix Perez and LTJ Bukem to name but a few. SQUASH also had a brief romance with Deep / Tech House as SILEX and CHRIS MONO. 
To this day, he is an avid D&B lover as it’s the only genre that encompasses everything, from hard, techy stuff to super deep to jazzy, funky styles to straight up, playful Jungle. To SQUASH, it is much more a feeling and lifestyle, involving, diverse and ever innovative. His preference is the liquidy side of things and he likes to play elaborate sets that take you on that journey - and he does exactly that with his exclusive mix for Bern Bass Podcast, and we are very excited to be part of that journey, enjoy!

Mista Sanchez is a Berne City based DJ, vinyl collector, record dealer and radio host of 2 shows on local Radio RaBe rabe.ch. His DJ history began in the mid 90ies with his first pair of turntables and a bunch of Punkrock LP’s. Soon he turned out to be a total nerd, fully focused on any style or kind of music. From Punkrock to Ska, to Reggae, Dancehall, Rocksteady, Dub, Jungle, Drum’n’Bass, Dub, Soul, Funk, Baile, Afrobeats, Rap, Trap... There were no genre borders anymore, unlimited options to work with. Ryck is one of the founders of Bern Bass Podcast and started DJing in 1997 after being bitten by the Drum&Bass bug at the local United Tribes Raves. He was struck by the sounds and energy of Goldie’s „Timeless“, the futuristic production and athmospheric styles of the Moving Shadow and Reinforced labels as well as the funky bassline rollers of the ever-prolific Full Cycle crew and DJs like Randall, Micky Finn and LTJ Bukem. An avid Junglist and record collector until this day, he got his first gig at the Lighters-series in 2002 after years of sweating blood & tears practising on the Technics 1210s. Known today for his varied selection with a heavy nod to the oldschool, over the years he played at major Swiss D&B events such as Restless at Bierhübeli and Darkside at Dachstock in Berne or Bassride at Rohstofflager and Mute at Hive in Zürich. As a producer, he released collaborative tracks with Konfront.Audio on Soul Deep, Inform and "Second Villain" with FD on Sun and Bass Recordings. After being in involved in RaBass 95.6, a monthly Drum&Bass show by DJ Lockee on Berne alternative radio RaBe for over ten years, he was asked to co-promote and continue the Liquid Session series at Dachstock in Berne in 2015, hosting a broad variety of international acts in the deeper realm of D&B as well as showcasing young and older local talent up until the series very recent demise. As a continuation of the idea of the Bern Bass Podcast, Ryck launched the Bandcamp-only Bern Bass Records label in 2020 to feature Swiss producers exclusively with the first releases by Simstah, OctaState and Dayni - We hope there is more to come soon, stay tuned and check out the Bandcamp page:

OctaState & nice nine are drum’n’bass producers and DJs based in St.Gallen. Coming from a live background, they started off in the scene as bassda, a drum’n’bass band recreating those fast beats and basses live on stage. The band is no more, but in 2015 they founded the Local Bass Movement alongside DJ SNES. Since then, the LBM crew has grown organically, now featuring additional members like Rumble, Leaneye and anotha90skid keeping the vibe alive in St.Gallen.
This mix for Bern Bass features a lot of dubs, collabs and exclusive remixes. A few of them showcase the connections OctaState & nice nine have established with other independent and underground artists. Get ready for remixes for synthwave duo Karl Kave & Durian, for swiss dialect band Dachs and for their bass heroes DLR and Total Science! Growing up with electronic music, 'nade was already listening to trance, happy hardcore, and techno in her early childhood. Since 2016 she has been on the turntables, making her mark in the Swiss scene with her Upfront/High Energy Basslovers style. As a member of JUR Records crew from Aarau, she regularly plays gigs and enjoys exchanging with national and international DJs. Her sets take the audience on an energizing journey, with power and melodically rolling, resonating basslines. Particularly memorable were her sets on the JUR Lovemobile at Zürich's legendary Streetparade 2017 and 201 , as well as performances in Brisbane and Bangkok.
She has performed alongside and with international heavyweights such as Calyx & TeeBee, Friction, Goldie, BeeCee, Ed Rush, DJ Storm, Camo & Krooked, LTJ Bukem, Anile, MC Fava, Logistics and DJ Hype among others.
