Jsonify automates web data collection. A new tool called Jsonify claims to take the drudgery out of web scraping. Using A-I, it identifies and extracts specific data points from websites without needing to use HTML selectors. This tool is particularly useful for data analysts and marketers who require structured data for e-commerce trends or academic research. Plus, there's a freemium pricing model, so you can give it a try before committing your budget!

SuperSplat enhances 3D design editing. If you’re into 3D design, SuperSplat might be just what you need. It's a browser-based tool that simplifies the editing of 3D Gaussian splats, helping users refine their models in real time. It supports various output formats and is completely free, making it accessible for both beginners and pros alike.

Flezr turns Google Sheets into websites. Flezr allows users to generate websites straight from Google Sheets or Supabase, complete with filters and search features. This tool is perfect for agencies that need to whip up custom sites without a coding background, and it also has a freemium model, so anyone can get started without upfront costs.

FactBot by Snopes verifies claims online. Lastly, Snopes has introduced FactBot, an A-I-powered tool that verifies claims and news stories. Simply input any claim, and FactBot quickly checks its accuracy against Snopes' vast archive. Best of all, it’s free and can help catch misinformation before it spreads.

This subscription-based service will offer priority access during peak times and additional features, transforming the way users engage with Artificial Intelligence. If you were excited about faster chat responses, this might be your ticket.

Next, we have an intriguing development from Microsoft. The tech giant has announced a major partnership with OpenAI to enhance the capabilities of the Microsoft Office suite. This means that popular applications like Word and Excel will soon incorporate smarter tools powered by Artificial Intelligence to help users automate tasks, generate content, and even offer data insights. Looks like your spreadsheets are about to get a lot friendlier!

Moving on, let's talk about AI ethics. The European Union has revealed its proposed regulations on Artificial Intelligence, aiming to ensure that AI technologies are developed and used responsibly. The new framework focuses on transparency, accountability, and protecting citizens’ rights in the growing use of AI. It's crucial that the tech industry pays attention, as these regulations could set standards worldwide.

In related news, Google has introduced new guidelines for the responsible use of AI in advertising. They are committed to minimizing bias and enhancing user benefits. The updates include stricter rules on data collection and algorithm transparency, which can undoubtedly lead to better and more ethical marketing practices. It’s about time we start seeing some responsibility in these practices.

This ambitious project allows city planners and researchers to simulate environmental changes, urban development, and even emergency response scenarios. This lecture is part of the Student Speaker Series

Through engagements like the Digital Silk Road and various state-owned enterprises (SOEs), the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has succeeded in creating an immense global network for data collection and stores of the world’s data. This capability is unnerving, but a more serious threat emerges coupled with CCP’s intentions to dominate on the world stage. Direct risk to the US varies depending on how the CCP will learn to process and use this data—whether for economic or coercive advantage. We can assume they would seek both, but the US knows little about what or how much data has been collected or the advancement of Chinese data learning technologies. Using the international financial system as inspiration, a model for monitoring, limiting, and reporting on global data collection and trading emerges that could provide the transparency needed to prevent China from conquering the datasphere.

Laren Reesman came to IWP with a B.A. in Intelligence Studies and double minors in French and Anti-Money Laundering from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. She has always been interested in public service, foreign affairs, and policy. Laren completed her Master of Arts in Statecraft and National Security specializing in Defense at IWP summer of 2024. She has focused on China as a US adversary and hopes to help strengthen the US against Chinese threats. Laren honed her research skills through her time at IWP and is excited to share a relevant and emerging topic with her peers.

In this week’s episode, host Daniel Raimi talks with Fiona Burlig, an assistant professor at the University of Chicago, about improving access to clean drinking water in India. In partnership with a private company that cleans drinking water and delivers water directly to households, Burlig recently conducted a field experiment to find out how different pricing strategies and subsidies influence people’s willingness to pay for clean drinking water; she and her colleagues gauged the effectiveness of these strategies by monitoring health outcomes for households that had varying levels of access to clean water. Burlig discusses the design and findings of her study, what these findings reveal about how people value clean water, and the involvement of both the public and private sectors in expanding access to clean water in developing nations.
