(It is 11:52pm PST as I start typing this.  Oh, the irony for the song I post right before my self-established deadline being the exact opposite of what I currently have.  ;) )

Barely getting this in under the wire, a lot of indecision filled up my day before finally, late this evening, deciding to finish up this track--which, in its instrumental form, was known as "synchronous" and really only had the Morodory-bass and the classic retro house drums.  Everything else--the vocal snips, the synths, the structure...all completed in a mad dash.  

Who was it that said that Necessity is the motherfucker of invention?  (Lorne Michaels, maybe?)

This track takes us into some familiar territory for Interbay.  British sci-fi television, disco tech house blends, a smattering of new wave, all jumbled up into what I hope is a pleasant and entertaining package.    

The good news is that future tracks shouldn't have to cut so close to the wire--because I'm starting to feel better.  After dealing with what turned out to be NOROVIRUS for about ten days, I've been completely asymptomatic today (I'm still, according to what I've read, really contagious, so I'm sticking close to home.) 

I've managed to work pretty much all day on music without feeling ill (yeah, even I was starting to get sick of Interbay! ;) )  Now, a lot of these were the beginnings of projects, or some advancement but not quite to the point where I'd call it finished, on a bunch of tracks...but that suggests that I'll be able to work steadily again from now on.  

...and everything is easy 'cause its free!  ;)  Who said that?  (Lorne Michaels, I think.)  

Anyway, I like this track.  Trainspotters will get a kick out of it.  If you just like a good housey groove with some fun vocal snips on it, it's certainly for you.  

Please listen--really, that's all I want is for people to hear this stuff.  (Though, if you could go back and check out a couple of recent "underperforming" daily releases (like "Opacity" and "Knock Me Over") that'd soothe some recent bruising for me and my fragile ego.  ;)

"Possession of Time" *SoundCloud Exclusive*

Welcome to a rather gray Monday morning, and as we've done for almost half a year now, we dig into the depths of the Interbay catalog--the 140 tracks that were made and posted on Facebook from January 2023 to May 2024, after which all music posting shifted here to SoundCloud--and give one of those early tracks  the RRR treatment "Rethink, Remake, Remix."  

Today, the focus turns to "Experiment 47"...as the RRR process turns it into "Escaping (to Space)".  

Meme-worthy, in all the right ways, "Escaping (to Space)" differs from the "Experiment 47" original by being longer, being "tougher" and being a bit more precise--cleaning up some sloppiness that used to be acceptable in the Facebook era for Interbay...but no longer tolerated for tracks posted here on SoundCloud.  

Both this new RRR version and the original were bass-forward tech house tracks with an excellent use of the anticipation inherent in open space...building to a peak, allowing for an extended release in this new version.  I think this new version is a clear improvement over the original--if only for nudging a few dodgy placement of a couple of impacts and drum hits to a more appropriate place on the grid.  

Oh, did I make it clear that this track is fun?  I should...because it is.  Even if you're not alrready anticipating where this track is taking you towards, and what's up with that...have you never been online before?--I think this track will still make you laugh while you're dancing.  

(And yes, as he told me himself in person before Interbay went from an idea into a music producing reality, he STILL does the rock.  BONUS INTERBAY POINTS for anyone who can translate what that previous sentence suggests.  Good luck with that!) 

I think there's some similarity between this track and "Possession of Time" from a couple of days ago.  Both are strong techno dance tracks with Moroder-y disco tech basslines and a strong sense of forward propulsion.  This similarity, despite there being well over a couple of years between when one track was posted and the other was conceived of...suggests that Interbay is developing a distinct sound of its own (which, of course, we stomp all over that claim by posting such a wide variety of sounds and styles.  (We kind of have to, in order to keep posting a new Interbay track every day--which is something Phantom Laboratories West is committed to...  Fingers crossed.)

Robert Aguilar was blessed to be born on September 11, 1979, in El Paso, Texas. His early years were spent in the Segundo Barrio, a stone’s throw from Juárez, Mexico—El Paso’s soul sister city. Known as “Segundo” to El Pasoans, it was home to Mexican and second-class citizens living together in the city’s first housing projects. Here, the first lesson was clear: rise above “second” for the sake of family or fall. And in the end, when called, hope to be judged worthy in the hands of God—to reunite with the family lost too soon.

Since 1982, loss became a defining thread in his life, shaping an early understanding that love never fades, only continues within the heart. From 1986 to 1989, he lived in Nuremberg, West Germany, where he witnessed firsthand how divisions—whether social or environmental—could fracture humanity. Darkness set in. Yet, he was blessed again, experiencing the unity of Oktoberfest as a child and feeling the warmth of music even in the bleakest of times. The underground house parties of the projects had already shown him that music could keep hearts united, even through hardship.

Germany in the ’80s introduced him to a world of international artists fighting to be heard, their music becoming a universal language of love and rebellion. Hooks and sequences sparked a passion to push back against the silence. Then, in 1997, in El Paso, Texas, at Ohm, he first experienced underground music, marking the beginning of a new era of inspiration—when house, trance, and jungle reigned, and everyone partied as one.

In 1998, with the birth of his son, followed by two daughters, dreams were set aside for reality. Serving in the military, he trained as a nurse to provide for his family, only to be honorably discharged after standing against failed leadership during Operation Enduring Freedom. And with that, the eagle was free to fly.

After 19 years of caring for both adult and pediatric patients, a new chapter began—because life’s cycles are deeply personal. He embraced learning every day, from shifts in health to the limitless world of music, with the unrestrained curiosity of a child and the wisdom of an adult.

Following the rhythm of life led to creating rhythms of his own, embracing all genres but always gravitating toward progressive sounds. Beto: strictly progressive house. Bob-E: a child of ’80s music and electro house. Every cycle of love inevitably returns to its origin.

In honoring his creator, Julio Aguilar, and facing the heartbreak of losing him in 2018, Robert—aka Bobby—continues his journey in atonement, carrying the hope that one day, he will reunite with his father and family in heaven.

Post-punk, dance, indie, electronic, and mutant pop in various styles (seriously!)--new tracks being posted daily (every day for over a year, so far!)
