I have played and seen a lot of 
indoor venues over the last 30 years.
Each one had its own charm.

For an event, a good venue is just as important as the programme.
Visitors want to feel at ease and the premises need to 
offer the necessary comfort.

A few months ago I played in a club in Cologne called the Red Cat Lounge.
I liked this place straight away, actually I would have expected something like this in Berlin 
but not in Cologne.
You could tell straight away that this club is an established techno venue,
they are simply different from the usual clubs.

This club offers plenty of space to chill out and relax in the front area.
If you look closely, there are lots of things to see under the ceilings and on the walls,
that sometimes made me smile.

What I liked best was that the music
on the dance floor is broadcast at a pleasant volume
so that you can have a good conversation while listening to the music.

The dance floor is approx. 8 metres lower and is connected to the front area via a passageway.

It is an acceptable size and has a rich, clear and powerful sound system.

When I saw my workplace, I really had to laugh.
It was in a cage and I was immediately impressed.
The technology in this cage is perfect.
Whether it's the mixer, CD player or monitors, everything is just as you would want it to be,
with the latest know-how.

I really had a great time there and would like to thank DJ Thor (Y.S.E.) once again
for the invitation and the good time.

Before I go to a gig, I always run through all the possibilities,
everything that could go wrong.
From the journey to the gig, I think about everything.
Be it traffic problems with trains, planes or cars, or even a second USB stick,
in case one fails or the CD players are not linked.

Nothing is left to chance, and I've always done well with it over the last 30 years.
What I have never reckoned with, however, is that my better half
really drop out of a live act.

Let's not kid ourselves, Michiel (Drukverdeler) is the heart of the live show.
and without him I have a big problem.
In the last 12 years that we've been playing live together
this has never happened until this one day in September.

Michiel had a bad cold and I was suddenly faced with a major problem.
Although we had discussed this worst-case scenario often enough,
the reality was very different.

I had to completely customise this *live act* for myself and do it very quickly and 
and without mistakes.
I could write a novel now about what I had to change.
But I think I'll just leave the recording of the set here.
So I hope that this *Live Act* remains a rarity, because without my better half
it's just not as accurate and perfect as it should be.

What does a DJ really need to do his job?
Strictly speaking, a traditional DJ needs nothing more than:
- two healthy hands, a clear head to lead the dancefloor musically innovatively, 
a USB stick, preferably loaded with 24-bit WAV files,
a good mixer, two good CDJ players with a USB slot 
and finally, play, pause and cue buttons.
That's all he needs to do his job.

What is described so simply here is somewhat different in reality.
Because real DJing also requires experience,
the art and skill of synchronising  two records.
Linking them in a logical sequence and mixing them cleverly.
This is the basis of the traditional DJ craft.
These are the factors that have always characterised us as DJs.
And I still enjoy them.

The challenge of concentrating again and again at every transition, synchronising the records,
continuing the set, observing the dancefloor and leading musically.
You can't predict where your set will take you.
Everything is left up to your instincts and the people on the dancefloor.
It's like you're writing a book every time and you yourself don't know how it starts and how it ends.
Yes, sometimes the transition isn't as smooth as it should be, but it's handmade.
That's how it's always been and that's how it should be.
Unfortunately, I belong to a dying generation with this attitude.

For some time now, Pioneer has been offering the CDJ 2000 and 3000 players, 
which make all this superfluous.
The Rekordbox system takes over DJing practically automatically.
This means that practically anyone can become a DJ overnight.
Simply read the manual, load Recordbox onto your PC and get started.

The DJ of the 21st century goes into his little room, selects his favourite tracks 
and loads them into the Recordbox programme on his PC and the DJ set is ready.
The whole thing is played on a USB stick, plugged into the CDJ player and Recordbox conjures 
up a nice smooth mix.
Forgot your headphones? No problem!
The CDJ has a solution for that too, so you have time for your stage performance.
Now you're ready for life as a DJ on the world's stages!

What for many is the fulfilment of a dream is increasingly becoming a nightmare for
traditional DJs.
For Pioneer, we DJs are no longer of interest.
We are a minority and the problems that this technology causes us on the players,
are no longer taken into consideration.
With every upgrade of the new players, these problems get a little bigger.

The WAV. is only displayed slowly or no longer correctly
The BPM times are inaccurate or are no longer displayed at all.
You can no longer fast-forward or rewind the track.
Even spinning, as in vinyl times, is the order of the day again.
If things go really badly, you're practically flying blind.
All you have is the remaining time display, nothing else.
But that's all you really need.

I've been prepared for all these problems over the past few years.
But on the Lalanda O.A., the CDJ 3000 had a new surprise in store for me.
It didn't keep playing the WAV, but simply went into a loop function.
It just doesn't get boring with these things.

So at the end of my set I would like to apologise for this mistake. 
But no matter what surprises Pioneer has in store for me - I won't give up!
I will remain who I am and even if I am the last of my craft here
A traditional DJ who practices his craft the way it should be practised.
I will never leave my work to a machine.

Be it Recordbox, Traktor or other programmes, they all turn a
DJ into just one.
One last humanoid remnant, a technology that only needs us for one thing.
To feed it with the music it is supposed to play.
In my opinion, it's only a matter of time before this DJ culture is taken over by an AI.
And it won't really bother anyone.

Orisma, Dj & Producer currently at Yellow Sunshine Explosion Recordings, born in Greece  on November 1988 in his home town Thessaloniki. From a very young age his  passion for music was born, at the age of  12 he started developing an interest for electronic rhythms. At the age of 15 he had his first experience as a Dj at small events and clubs around is home town. Some years later, as a professional Dj, he starts to study "Music Technology" and started making his own sounds . After experimenting on different kinds of music, he returns to his first and true love, Psy-Trance! In 2013 he started developing  Psy-Trance rhythms and grooves with powerful harmonic progressive melodies, as a result of this an EP called, "Sonnus - Invictus" was born. A year later together with one of his best friends he created a duo side project called, "Psyclists" and released 4 more tracks, powered by Infinity-Tunes records. But the best was still to come, 2015 saw "birth" of his own solo project "ORISMA". 7th August of 2015 the track "Orisma - Lost Reality" was the track that got Orisma to start working with the well recognised label "Yellow Sunshine Explosion Recordings"! Orisma first E.P.(Digital Meditation ) came on 29/04/16 and the 2nd  E.P.(Balance Of The Universe EP) on 02/01/17. One year later mid 2018 the 3rd EP was born  “Alien Light” which reached the Psy-Trance charts for the first time achieving a well noticed position 14 for best releases psytrance releases. The following EP was “Smile” released December 2019 which turned out to be another great success. Mid January 2020 was time for the much anticipated Orisma 1st solo album!  “Travel Beyond”....... response was outstanding and it couldn’t have gone much better Orisma first debut album hits 1st position on Beatport’s Top100 Releases and also Psyshop’s Top 100 charts!!! This was an incredible success!
Few months down the line from his latest release Orisma created a remix contest competition hosted by YSE, with the track “The Truth” taken from “Travel Beyond” album. The competition ended with 4 remixes that were chosen wisely and the  5th Orisma EP “The Truth Remix” was created from that. Orisma 6th and latest EP from was released early September 2020 under the name “New Age” which also hits the 1st place on the top 100 best psytrance releases on beatport.
Along those years of producing  Orisma had the pleasure work on some RMXs or  collaborations with some of the best artists out there (Liquid Soul, Faders, Melicia, E-mov, Mechanimal, Ellinio, Drukverdeler & Bim, Champa, Sirion, Spinney Lainey, Serenity Flux, Quantum Loop and more…)
Orisma has performed for dance-floors all over Europe and his next Step is to take his music to different corners around the world. 
 The future will see countless listeners continue thrilled and spellbound by his own work!!!
