Ep 17 - APBS 2024 Conference

On this episode of Meeting Midway we discuss the Targeted System of Support Evaluation Tool (TSSET) with Nicole Jones. The purpose of this tool is to measure the implementation of Tier 2 and Tier 3 efforts among supported individuals within an organization. The tool itself, when administer, highlights consistent Tier 2 and Tier 3 efforts while also addressing gaps that need to be strengthened or areas that need to be implemented. At this time Missouri is the only state using the TSSET and is leading the rest of the nation in this approach however collaboration and connections are being made across the USA and internationally as well. On this episode of Meeting Midway we are talking with Melinda Kubisa, CEO, & Wendy Pettifer, Executive Manager, with Community Living Options Inc. in Adelaide, South Australia. Melinda and Wendy recently presented at the 2024 Association for Positive Behavior Support conference in Chicago, IL. Their presentation was titled "Evidenced Based Positive Behavior Support for Quality of Life and A Home In the Community". Melinda and Wendy discuss a residential service program they developed in South Australia to help individuals with complex needs and co-occurring diagnoses (behavioral health and IDD) transition out forensic treatment settings or institutional settings into the community through the use of a Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) and a Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model. The success of their program has shown the power and effectiveness of PBS and MTSS as they have seen zero recidivism for the population they support, but most importantly an increase in autonomy, personal liberty, and quality of life. Our discussion centers around this program while providing context around funding with Australia's National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Please see additional below…

EP 20. From Forensic Settings to Thriving in the Community: Australian Tiered Supports

On this epsidoes of Cultivating Culture we go over the Culture Landscape Score Card currently used by the Missouri Department of Mental Health - Division of Developmental Disabilities. This annual assessment tool is essentially a pulse check to determine the status of office culture. It covers several different domains related to office culture and scores an office based on responses provided by its employees. DMH-DD has recently completed their second round with this tool and in several location is seeing improvements in employee responses to office culture. From the score card office can then begin the process of action planning to address system gaps in office culture through implementation of specific intervention such as ways to increase employees knowledge about agency values, behaviors, etc… With this in mind the layout of this episode first describe the Culture Landscape Score Card, its domains, and benefits. Then we hear from the most recent Culture Club meeting where Nicole Jones reviews the data collected from the score card and a brief discussion with Jessica Bax over an activity that can be used to begin discussions within your office.

On this epsidoes of Meeting Midway we're discussing what data is and why it is important. Data is complex and has many different layers that we attempt to unravel in this episode. We first attempt to operationally define what data is. Next we go into why its important to collect data, how we can use data, and provide ideas on what is good and bad data. Our hope for this epsidoes is that listeners will develop greater knowledge on this subject and begin to view data not as just confusing statistic or to complicated to collect and review, but rather to understand how data can help you and why you need it for your organization.

Ep 25. A year in in review 🎉

In this episode of Meeting Midway, we sit down with Chad Reyes, an expert in Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training, to break down what CIT is all about and why it’s so vital for first responders. Chad explains the training’s focus on de-escalation techniques, scenario-based learning, and collaboration with mental health professionals, giving listeners an inside look at how it helps law enforcement and other first responders handle crises more effectively. 

Chad goes into detail about several benefits of CIT, including how it helps officers build rapport with individuals in distress and creates positive interactions them as well. He also compares CIT with Missouri’s “Tools of Choice” program, discussing how both help relate to one another.
