VGM inspired track. I created a moody and sneaky underground dungeon vibe. Something that would help the player feel that there's a build up towards something happening or a mystery to solve. Instrumentation inspired by Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Cursed Kingdom is an original track that was made with the intentions of being a RPG or JRPG's dark dungeon theme.
I wanted to mix electronic groove with emotional piano, in a story-driven, tense, melancholic and atmospheric universe inspired by the classic dungeon vibes of Japanese role-playing games.

One of many dungeon themes I wrote early on. Meant to invoke images of a cavern made of ice, or crystal. Frozen Wonders is an upbeat counterpart to "Revelations of Fragility", intended to elicit a feeling of wondrous exploration. :)

I've done the dungeon theme already in Link's Awakening, so for this one, I had think really hard hard to differentiate my second attempt. I decided to make it sound the least Zelda-like as possible. When I think of my time playing the original Zelda, the dungeons were definitely the most difficult. The droning background arpeggios really added to the tension I would feel, and the repetitive tiled screens really gave me claustrophobia.

To contrast the energetic and hopeful tone of the overworld theme. I went for doom and gloom in the dungeons. The dungeons that lay host to the most dangerous ancient beasts must have given Link second thoughts. There was a reason why Zelda chose to hide the Triforce pieces in these ruins filled with long forgotten lore. Every enemy in every screen call out for Link's death, as he does not belong there.

I spent the majority of my efforts on an original tune that would slowly build up to the original melody. With the arpeggios underscoring the entire piece, you can imagine Link starting out stepping forward cautiously, mindful of his surroundings. He searches every room, opens every door, in order to brave through all the obstacles in the maze. With each progress made, Link becomes more sure of himself, more determined, but at the same time the monsters and undead creatures become more terrifying and dangerous. I wanted the entire piece to sound melancholy, because Link knew Zelda was here before him, but was now in captivity.

Finally, I've finished the brand new update of my Dungeon Theme remix for the NES game Star Tropics.
It took me quite some time to gather and implement new ideas for the composition - but in the end some huge tropical stuff as well as exciting dreams 'n' childhood memories were going on in my mind which helped me a lot to feel the soul of the game once again, to improve the track and put it on the next level.

In this new remix version 1.4 I've made lots of changes:

1) First of all, I've set up a whole new mixing and used a wider stereo field for a much cleaner sound.
2) Secondly, the track contains two different flutes instead of just one now (my Flute Of Dreams and a new pan flute) - each one for different parts of the track. For the former as well as for new flute parts I've also written some unique notes with much more expression and exciting articulations. Now the track starts with the pan flute and the Flute Of Dreams shows up in several subsequent parts (as well as the pan flute).
I really love the exotic sound of both flutes - this really fits the atmosphere of Star Tropics. 
3) Then I've made much more changes in the velocity section of several tracks.
4) For the vintage organ I've added some reverb (it sounded a bit too dry and dull in the previous remix version) and for the strings I've reduced the delay quite a bit (so, the strings don't dominate the soundtrack or make it muddy anymore).
This has improved the clarity and the euphony of the soundtrack a lot.
5) Within the drums section I've created lots of alternations for some build-ups and for a much more exciting development of the soundtrack.
For the orchestral percussion stuff towards the end of the track I've used some powerful hall effects (it was a bit too dry in the previous version) and I've composed some new drumming stuff with shakers and a bongo.
6) Around the middle of the track I've created a little atmospheric break with my new Vita Concert Grand piano VSTi and a flute.
7) After this the track goes over into a smooth acoustic guitar part with a short relaxing harp melody.
8) But after a while and a premonitory flute melody later the soundtrack rises again and goes over into a lively saxophone part with some passionate southern vibes.
If ya wanna dance now, please don't hold yourself back - it's the radically right part of the track to swing your body like a fierce island yoyo.
9) For the great final of my remix I've made a radically improved version of the former orchestral percussion - this time with completely new shakers, a bongo, an additional and really driving string section and some pretty exciting flute melodies which build up together one last time in a final peak.
10) And finally, I've created a movie with some of my very own gameplay scenes from the European version of the game Star Tropics.

All in all I've put a lot of time, efforts, passion and new skills into this huge remix update.
It was really joyful and exciting for me to recreate the atmosphere of the game and bring it on the next level.
And I totally enjoy the results.
