Il y a quelque chose d’unique à l’acte de faire découvrir à quelqu’un un nouvel univers sonore.
Observer le visage surpris d'un.e ami.e lorsqu'iel corrige ses connaissances et remplace un silence erroné par la découverte d'un écosystème est un moment d'une rare préciosité.

C’est l’opportunité, quoi que limitée par l’humanité de notre perception, de se mettre dans la peau de l’autre vivant, de prothétiser l’écoute et de la traduire en essayant de la réduire le moins possible aux moyens de nos sens. C’est se fondre aux rustres outils pour entendre le plus subtil balbutiement d’une chenille ou la plainte  du vent brossant les carex.

Comme j’envie la perception de l’insecte aquatique et du poisson d’eau douce. J’aimerais comprendre les messages, les cris et les sifflements afin de saisir les subtilités des langages de l’autre.  Voudront-iels nous comprendre aussi lorsque nous leur démontrerons assez de compassion ou d’empathie?

There’s something uniquely powerful in the act of showing someone how an entire new world sounds.

In that moment, you can see the surprise in a friend’s face while they recalibrate their understanding and witness silence giving way to a new sonic ecosystem. 

It’s an opportunity, though our human perception is limited, for them to step into another living being’s experience, to translate  and  understand through an augmented form of listening how differently we can all perceive our own habitats. Reaching with our limited tools to grasp the faintest murmur of a caterpillar or the whistling of wind brushing sedges.

I envy the aquatic insects. I long to understand their signals, their cries and their whistles and grasp the subtleties of their languages. Will they, too, seek to understand us once we will show them enough compassion or empathy?
