This is the missing seventh piece to Roveses Rei.

It is unfinished.  

At the time of its composition, Ж was struggling with an eating disorder, regularly refraining from eating for days at a time. This went on for years.

A lot of pain was poured into this piece surrounding the frustrations of their condition. It was removed from the opera after completion because the emotion which had been grafted onto the music were too traumatic for Ж to hear.

The opera's original tracklist is still absent of a seventh piece.

It's original name was x`xoor`l`vi soor`l rei`x, now simply "soor`l".

If the pain of an eating disorder could be expressed in music, mvmt II

'Danza del Destino' unfolds like a ballet in a neon-lit dystopian dream, where violin and cello move like dancers against a cyberpunk sky. Just as a ballerina's tulle dress catches the pink and cyan lights of towering skyscrapers, the violin's melody floats and swirls above the cello's grounded strength. Through rain-slicked streets and rising steam, the instruments circle each other in an intimate pas de deux, their voices cutting through the urban glow like silhouettes in the night. The piece builds with the intensity of lovers finding each other in a world of chrome and neon, their dance a defiant act of grace amidst the city's mechanical pulse. As the music weaves between tension and release, it mirrors the perfect balance of two dancers locked in an eternal moment - one en pointe, the other supporting, both transformed by destiny's choreography into something transcendent.

Danza del Destino

This track began life as an extended outro to my other track “Une Barque Sur L’Océan - Bastardised” but, seeing more musical potential in the material than could be explored in a simple coda, I decided to pull this out into being a piece in its own right. Again working to repurpose Ravel’s ideas to portray the movement of the ocean in my own way, in this track I pushed my vision to fully exploit the saxophone’s capabilities further than ever before. The track features complex saxophone percussion as well as a triumphant sax-organ that defines the second half of the piece.

This was my first experiment in my project covering influential repertoire. Taking Ravel’s infamous piano piece “Une barque sur l’océan”, I made it my mission to find a way to reproduce the sensations of his indulgent harmonies and fluid movement in a track with a danceable rhythm and solid structure.

Une Barque Sur L'Océan - Bastardised

Inspired by Ornette Coleman’s 1959 recording of this jazz standard, this track reimagines Lonely Woman through my own lens. After opening with grainy chords surrounding the signature melody, driving saxophone percussion and a looping rework of the bridge dramatically shift the tone.

Echoes bloom where roses left…
Vienna dreams in bass and lace…
The ballroom slips into outer space…

Taffeta ghosts spin in spiral delight,
Crinolines drift in the pale strobe light.
Tea turned to tonic, grace turned to groove —
The Empress winks, and the chandeliers move.

Left, right, spin it slow —
Danube beats in vertigo.
Kick, delay, take a bow —
Strauß on vinyl, feel it now…

🎵 Waltz me in dub, let the bassline swirl,
Powdered wigs and a skanking girl.
Three steps deep in echo wine,
The ballroom bends, and so does time.

Xxhe or Ж is an ice composer, vocalist, sound artist, serrulate sonancer, performance artist, poet, bending shape dancer, martial artist, experimental opera borner, and groundbreaking creator from San Francisco.

Known for writing a "strange-tundra" opera at the age of seventeen using the sounds of wind, ice, orchestral instruments, and the human voice, Xxhe styled a new genre and continues to invent new ways to write music.
