Description: This was my first experiment in my project covering influential repertoire. Taking Ravel’s infamous piano piece “Une barque sur l’océan”, I made it my mission to find a way to reproduce the sensations of his indulgent harmonies and fluid movement in a track with a danceable rhythm and solid structure.

This track began life as an extended outro to my other track “Une Barque Sur L’Océan - Bastardised” but, seeing more musical potential in the material than could be explored in a simple coda, I decided to pull this out into being a piece in its own right. Again working to repurpose Ravel’s ideas to portray the movement of the ocean in my own way, in this track I pushed my vision to fully exploit the saxophone’s capabilities further than ever before. The track features complex saxophone percussion as well as a triumphant sax-organ that defines the second half of the piece.

Inspired by Ornette Coleman’s 1959 recording of this jazz standard, this track reimagines Lonely Woman through my own lens. After opening with grainy chords surrounding the signature melody, driving saxophone percussion and a looping rework of the bridge dramatically shift the tone.
