This lecture discusses key ideas from the 20th Century American science-fiction short story writer and novelist, Philip K. Dick's novel Ubik

It focuses specifically on one of the characters who is seemingly minor early on in the novel, but who turns out to be a character of major importance within the plot. Jory Miller is a young man in half-life who "eats" other people in half-life in the moratorium, consuming their life-force, leaving them at the mercy of the cold of half-life. He turns out to be the primary antagonist of the story, consuming the person previously thought to be the antagonist, Pat Conley.

A hard-hitting, trap-fueled exposé that peels back the velvet curtain on power and predation. Vinyl crackle and bent-piano twang set the stage, while distorted 808s and synth-squeals drive a relentless beat. Raw verses paint a picture of a suited figure trafficking hush money and private flights, slipping past age-of-consent lines. Epstein’s shadow looming over every bar. The hook cuts deep: “He love ’em young,” a chilling mantra underscored by ghost snares and sub-bass thuds. Perfect for dark playlists, this track is not for the faint of heart.

This lecture discusses key ideas from the 20th century philosophical short story writer, essayist, and poet Jorge Luis Borges's story "Emma Zunz" which can be found in Collected Fictions. 

It provides an interesting tale of revenge to which Borges gives his usual narrative depth and twists. Emma finds out that her father, who was slandered and sent to prison by the genuine embezzler, Loewenthal, who now owns the mill she works at, and she sets into a motion a plan to bring about justice
