As a day one resident of Horoom / Bassiani he's a vivid part of the local scene while his productions for iconic labels like Further Electronics and georgian labels Fantastic Planet and Mind Controlled Rectifier made him known to the international crowd.

After a busy year releasing records from E.R.P., Hieroglyphic Being, and Kyle Hall, the Spanish Apnea imprint closes out 2023 with a three-tracker from Tbilisi’s Hamatsuki. Kicking off the release, the Georgian Bassiani resident reissues ‘Sea Of Nothingness’, originally released on the local Dream Machine Records. Sustained lo-fi pads guide the way across misty waters, gated vocals echoing like sirens as cosmic swells of acid permeate its nearly eight-minute run-time. 
‘Sea Of Nothingness’ then makes way for two cuts from Hamatsuki’s self-released 2021 ‘Oldies’ album, starting with ‘Dance And Cry’. It’s an emotive trip through mythical mountain forests, complete with saturated arpeggio melodies, subtle percussion and weighty bass bursts, before title track ‘Sultikveteba’ closes out this vinyl-only collage of re-releases. 

Hamatsuki’s ‘Sultikveteba’ sees the Fantastic Planet and Mind Controller Rectifier artist embark on an evocative journey boasting crunchy low-end, hypnotic vocals and warm melodies, carefully laid out over its stripped-back rhythm and dropping the curtain on this hugely versatile EP brimming with feeling.

Back to Georgia and Tbilisi this week with the one and only Hamatsuki, resident DJ at the infamous Bassiani. Exponent of a versatile DJing style that runs the gamut from rugged techno wares to propulsive acid, via liquid electro, techno, house and everything in between, Hamatsuki treats us to a wild and effusive two hours of radical obliqueness, steering us constantly into murky waters, where life swarms and the metamorphic magic happens. Stacking crazy frantic wares one after the other in a Fantasia-like symphony of broken grooves, raging uptempo and hair-raising buildups, here comes one of Tbilisi’s key figures with a massive, uncompromising blast-off of a set. Next up comes a very special set recorded live at Bassiani/Horoom’s ten year anniversary in early October. Having made common cause with the club in its infancy, longtime resident Hamatsuki (Mamuka Tskhadaia) and Morevi Records key figure Skyra (Sandro Papaskiri) are a perfect vector for the club’s vision. These two homegrown talents are legends in their own right, and well versed in their musical skill, teaming up on occasion and getting people moving to the sound of their surging beats. The community built around them and their Georgian confrères has grown exponentially since casual beginnings on the ground in Tbilisi, and the timeless mark they’ve left on the soul of the city is testament to its creative spirit. From chilled-out releases to laid back sets, the duo have an innate feeling for the other that complements and sparks surprising new ideas, downtempo house that sounds as fresh today as it did back then. For Bassiani Podcast 235, the pair flex their well-trained muscle and deliver an hour of groovy and undulating sounds, unbent rhythms for the dancing class. Tbilisi energy to the letter. And here’s to another ten.
