The bond between Sprechen & the Idaho based duo Causeway (Allison Rae & Marshall Watson) has been steadily building over recent time with various message & props to each other as well Allie providing outstanding vocals on The Thief Of Time release last year.

With previous releases on Italians Do It Better (one of our fave labels!) they are now front & centre on Sprechen with their latest single 'Dancing With Shadows', a pulsating piece of hefty synth style action which precedes their forthcoming long player.

The single is a sonic exploration of the duo's expansive musical palate which cites influences from contemporaries such as The Cure & New Order (and even John Hughes movies!) but with a presence that is 100% unique to Causeway. Stripped back instrumentation and stacked synths create a dreamlike soundscape where Allison's vocal becomes the guiding light and provider of additional emotion on this neon soaked journey.

Dancing With Shadows comes across like a main track from the sequel to Drive that we never got (though we live in hope!), cinematic, stunning and a real plentiful taster of what is to come on their album next year.

Remixes take the track into other dysfunctional disco realms with Marshall himself providing a pumped up club mix that cranks everything from the OG up to 11 on the 'chunk-o-meter'. Whilst Sprechen's very own Chris Massey goes in for the acid kill with his 303 tweaking A Love From Outer Space style mid set stomper. Speaking of A Love From Outer Space, Sean Johnston himself gives a deep, moody & more psychedelic affair to his rework that takes things subterranean. Whilst Kiaki takes things deeper into stripped back chug territory which is equal parts hypnotic & hooky with a stomping backdrop...big!

February 17 will mark the fifth anniversary of Andrew Weatherall’s tragic death. Three days before that, Material Music will release A Love from Outer Space, a compilation compiled and mixed by  Sean Johnston, who DJed and ran the A Love from Outer Space club night with Weatherall. It features 19 songs that capture the essence of the club night, many of them exclusive. I spoke to Sean about the new album, about London 88 Acid House madness, 122 BPM limits, all-time ALFOS anthems and DJing at ALFOS days after Weatherall’s passing. I hope you enjoy it. Electronic supergroup of sorts, Decius bring us “Queen Of 14th Street" on the Leaf Label.  We have some Crooked Man, on the mix for PBR Streetgang and another track taken from the new A Love From Outer Space compilation, this time from Laars  with “None”. Le Carrousel gets another spin ahead of its release this Friday, while we touch back down in February 1990, with Beltram’s seminal "Energy Flash", released 35 years ago this week.

The Why people dance question was asked for the first time in Lithuania back in 2013 but it gained a worldwide echo in its 8 years of existence. Run by @pauliuskamblevicius with the help of @experimentsserial and a network of collaborators, the online electronic music platform and label keeps its heart open for new friends and treasure finds but its filter tight and deep underground. As the son of a professional flamenco singer, Thomas has always been surrounded by music.  Exposure to flamenco influenced him because it has a dynamic range of emotions—from the "deep singing" style of cante hondo, to the more lively alegrias.  He has also worked in the corporate, independent, and online music industry for a number of years.  At one point he was a Content Manager for the Electronic Music genre at MP3.com, where he screened over 500 songs per day.  Exposure to a wide range of music explains the range of genres in his mixes—he uses whatever carries the mood.  From listening to Umm Kulthum's "Enta Omri" in his childhood, to New Wave and  Industrial as a teen, it became difficult for him to stick to one sound. Though vinyl was his original format of choice when he started in the 90s, the use of digital mixing has helped him better form soundscapes to expand your headspace.  Let him play with your moods for a spell.
