Ep. 44 Becoming Psychic with Lisa Williams and Barry Goldstein

Derek White reconstructs a fragmented and attentively curated mix of Laura Nyro samples to forge a sensitive and psychotropic ambient DJ set under the alias deyusunn.

White draws focus on Nyro's most passionate syrupy moments of femininity and vulnerability by constructing a mind altering, synergistic, repetitive mantralike sound collage. This experiment was a practice of restraint using only sounds from Laura Nyro's music.

Many of the samples were chopped, reversed & retuned on degraded tape in a modern minimalist fashion. Experimental equalization techniques were used to reveal hidden harmonic artifacts. With its repetitive nature, this set encourages room for relaxation, subtle humor, and attention to detail of subtle movements.

This set is meant to stimulate emotions of sentimental warmth, passion & activate a calm meditational state.
