Hello and welcome to the first ReFrame of 2025, we kick off the new year with guest Solid State aka Richard Hardcastle joining. 


An ever present in the Sheffield underground dance scene,  Richard joins us for an interview at the half way point (1h 23m) to talk about his early influences, the evolving Sheffield dance music scene and some of his favourite records before closing out the show with a wonderful 70 minute mix taking in a range of electronic and disco influenced soubds.

The ReFrame started life initially as a radio show for Bristol's Space Invader in 2010.  Selections fall loosely into 3 territories...

* Excursions into hazy cinematic sounds, psychedelic soul, folk, library oddities, African, world and beyond. The Magic Faraway Series the latest incumbent.

* Cosmic disco, boogie and leftfield European/Balearic music.

* Deep electronic machine music (Robot Symphony, Amongst Machines, Off kilter dream filter)

Klaus Benedek grew up in a small town near Vienna. His interest in electronic music began during the 90s techno hype. He spent hours watching video clips on MTV and viva and thus gaining knowledge about electronic music. In 2004, he began teaching himself to produce. Gathering his inspiration wherever he could, he began collecting 12" vinyl records the same year and 2 years later got his first dj-gigs. From 2008 till 2010 he was one of the resident DJs at the MNML Thursdays in the Camera Club. In 2012 he started with Alex Kolodziej the event-series Tellerbetrieb. Currently he finds most of his inspiration in Chicago House, Deep House, Disco and Breakbeat. After releases on labels like Petrol Dollar, Subversaal, rekooda, Soul Shift Music, Clean and Dirty Recordings and tanzbar, Klaus launched his own label forTunea in 2014.

During my life I've heard a lot of music and different genres, but my best passion is for electronic sounds, specially house. My sound usually (but not always) is about experimental and futuristic deep house, that is deep house exploring new sounds and textures, combining synths and sometimes samples.

I create music using Ableton Live (as an instument Live Session), Roland TR8s, Volca FM2 and Volca Keys. I'd like to flow with music and work hard my live set, adding complexity and experimental work. The music I create could be labelled as "experimental deep house", everything growing from the jam and live set.  
Additional post processing can be made sometimes in Ableton.

As a DJ , my style mainly flows from deep to classic house, and jacking.
