Yo, so I went to Walker Art Center's Keith Haring exhibit over my birthday weekend in MPLS. They had a short clip of an animation he did with NYC Peech Boys - Come On, Come On (Don't Say Maybe) playing. Long story short, I felt inspired by the whole experience. Life is short, so I should try to leave pieces of me behind. So here's my June 2024 collage of OPT.

Session Victim need little by way of introduction having been releasing on Delu-sions consistently for the last 10 years and becoming the undisputed poster boys for the label in the process.  Despite their regular appearance however, it’s always a real treat to announce a new record from the German duo and we have to say, the Screen Off EP may well find them in their finest form to date!  Coming hot off their latest downtempo LP entitled Low Key, Low Pressure for Night Time Stories, you can tell Hauke and Matthias were ready to take things back to the dance-floor and have delivered an EP which looks set to become a future classic and no doubt big in the box of discerning DJ’s the world over.

Screen Off is really it’s own thing, living somewhere on the long and winding road between the Bar Kays and the Bad Brains, suffice to say that what it lacks in easily definable attributes it makes up for in sheer energy and raw attitude. Hauke and Matthias re-invite Jamaican poet and vocalist Ras Stimulant, who contemplates our screen addictions and urges us to disconnect and be present in the moment. Matthias’ rolling bassline provides the backbone, whilst hints of crunchy Moog and chopped guitar samples all bring a sense of urgency to the track. 

Light The Way acts as an antidote, bringing a sense of calm melancholia in       con-trast to the title track’s low-end, funked-up fervour.  A soft focus and almost    distant drum groove draws us in whilst arpeggiating synths add a sense of optimism, reinforcing the tracks title.  

Closing out the release we have Session Victim’s studio partner, good friend and all-round top producer Iron Curtis in for a remix of Light The Way.  Johannes takes an interesting approach for his Illuminati interpretation, enhancing the breakbeat feel and mixing up chopped samples with classic 808 drums. A muscular bassline adds extra weight to his remix but without losing the subtle musicality and positive vibe of the original.  

Being the vinyl purists they are, Session Victim and Iron Curtis top up the physical 12“ EP with the exclusive Screen Off Acapella and an additional Iron Curtis Remix Reprise.

Klaus Benedek grew up in a small town near Vienna. His interest in electronic music began during the 90s techno hype. He spent hours watching video clips on MTV and viva and thus gaining knowledge about electronic music. In 2004, he began teaching himself to produce. Gathering his inspiration wherever he could, he began collecting 12" vinyl records the same year and 2 years later got his first dj-gigs. From 2008 till 2010 he was one of the resident DJs at the MNML Thursdays in the Camera Club. In 2012 he started with Alex Kolodziej the event-series Tellerbetrieb. Currently he finds most of his inspiration in Chicago House, Deep House, Disco and Breakbeat. After releases on labels like Petrol Dollar, Subversaal, rekooda, Soul Shift Music, Clean and Dirty Recordings and tanzbar, Klaus launched his own label forTunea in 2014.

The Swiss, British and Australian multinational has been exploring machine-made music since the late 1990s, recreating in his own way off the classic sounds emanating out of Detroit, Chicago and London on an old MC-303 and Juno 106 synthesiser. His sounds continue today to be influenced by the House, Acid, Techno, Electro and Breakbeat music genres prominent in the US and UK scenes. Through the merging of the gritty with the soulful via both old analog and new digital tools, his music always delivers a raw but emotive touch.

His studio is fitted out with a small collection of classic Roland units, helping him keep true to the authentic sound he loves of the 303s, 909s and 808s. Evident in his own releases for others and on his own imprint Hummingbird, which has gained him regular support from a growing list of industry DJs such as Laurent Garnier, DJ Rolando, Vince Watson, Danny Tenaglia, Roy Davis Jr., DJ Sprinkles, DJ Bone, Ian Pooley, Fred P, nd_Baumecker, DVS1, Colin Dale, Marcel Dettmann, Slam, Tintonton Duvante, Trevor Rockcliffe, Truncate, Terry Frances, Quarion as well as being featured on NTS.

As a DJ both resident or touring his journey has taken him around the World to perform and play feature at venues such as La Ruche, Club der Visionäre, Sunday Breakfast Zurich, Griessmuehle, Brown Alley, Freedom Mills, MOS New Delhi and FUMP Thailand. He's supported acts such as Eric Powell, Brothers’ Vibe, Pier Bucci, Simon Coyle, Il Bosco, John Heckle, Hot Since 82, Stimming, Noir, Live & Roby, Shonky, Placid, Camea, Matthew Styles and Tobi Neumann.
