I've been doing a lot of synthesizer-focused electronic dance music--both modern and retro styles, or as is typical for Interbay, a melange of both.  I wanted to do a more traditional guitar-centric rock song.  

And I don't think I've made a better one.

Sure, I've made guitar-centric post-punk songs that are definitely in my wheelhouse.  But, the kind of "rock" that Tom Petty might have done?  That R.E.M.  or Let's Active might have done?  That The Beatles might have done (well, the Revolver or earlier Beatles)?  I don't think I've managed anything like that...until now.  

For a change, I managed to keep this simple.  I actually took out things that I thought cluttered the mix instead of trying to paint in all of the white spaces (horror vacui!!!!  Hey Crash!  Here's a reference only you and I will get!!!).  

Fearing, as I always do, for Icarus' safety, I had put a bunch of effects on the dialogue snippets to hide them from the sentinels searching for Zion...but upon listening to it one last time before uploading it here, I realized that those effects made the whole track unlistenable.  So, I took the levels of effects down and found different ways to break up the sentinel enticing morsels.  

Now, I am not a natural guitarist (I have the fingertips of someone who types a lot.)  I've played bass (badly) but just as my brain on drums can't handle more than three limbs at a time, my brain on guitars would be happier with two strings less rather than two strings more.  

So, though I got a good bell like sound--a very Rickenbacker-y sound--I'm not as confident in what has been recorded.  (Is this my first ever attempt at a guitar solo?  Its...well, it fills the empty space I left for it, so I'll call that a win.)  

I may revisit this, write some proper words for it and sing on it...someday.  But for now, it is serendipitous that this song with an example of taking the risk to share your creative efforts with others, even if they may not be very good or make sense, is married to music that is my creative effort (no non-vocal samples on this), even though it may not be very good, and may not make any sense.  

A barbaric yawp from a sweaty toothed madman, indeed.  

(Meanwhile, both my kid and I remain sick...whether that will impact future Interbay tracks?  How could it not?)
