Darling, You're my Wild Regret

"Ladies & Gentlemen, Welcome to the Annual General Meeting of the Dark Ocean Society" by Darkk Messiahs is a brooding journey into the depths of dark jazz and beats. Anchored by Sticks Thompson’s commanding drums and Wilt Flowers’ pulsating bass, the track is a rhythm-driven exploration, with Sonny Rhodes’ piano lines weaving elegant motifs through the sonic tapestry. Guy Stansfield’s clarinet and Blue Six’s trumpet add haunting melodies that rise and fall like waves, evoking a mysterious, oceanic atmosphere. This piece blurs the lines between groove and noir, delivering a cinematic experience drenched in shadow.

Here is my original jazz composition – Variation No. 1, where I blend the warm, acoustic sounds of piano, double bass, and drums. A solo performance where I play all three instruments, shaping a unique and expressive piece inspired by the timeless essence of jazz. With its dynamic interplay and rich harmonies, this track creates an immersive musical journey.

Variation No. 1

"Dear Old Stockholm" – my unique jazz arrangement for double bass, piano, and drums, where I give this classic tune a fresh sound and a personal touch. This is my own interpretation—blending lyrical melody, deep groove, and spontaneous improvisation.
Every instrumental part - from the warm piano chords to the pulsing walking bass and delicate brushwork on the drums - was performed and recorded by me. Inspired by legendary jazz renditions, I infused this version with both intimacy and expressive energy.

Dear Old Stockholm

"Miasteczko Bełz" – a timeless melody reimagined in a jazz arrangement for piano, mandolin, double bass, and drums. This piece preserves the soul of tradition while embracing the freedom of improvisation, blending rich harmonies with a deep and genuine sound.

In my interpretation, I aimed to capture both the nostalgic essence of the original and the expressive possibilities of jazz. The warm sound of the piano, the resonant double bass, and the delicate brushwork on the drums create an intimate yet dynamic atmosphere. The mandolin, taking on the lead melody, brings a bright and expressive voice to the piece while also adding a shimmering texture in the background, enriching the arrangement with its unique timbre.

These Guitars Say Sorry is the banner for a diverse range of artists, from UK singer-songwriter These Guitars Say Sorry to classical composer Jeremias Langsämmer along with his ensemble, Icelandic post-rock band Laxá with the Heima Kvartett, ambient artist Siegfried Jünger, and Doom Jazz ensemble The Dark Messiahs. Founded by Jez Stephen, who incepted all the projects, the label has released over 30 albums, crafting a unique sonic identity across genres.

Gerhard Andreas Schreiber. Since the 1980s,  composing and producing music under the name octave plateau. What began in the shadowed clubs of the post-punk era and the neon-lit pulse of the Neue Deutsche Welle has grown into a lifelong journey through diverse soundscapes and emotions.

Back then, working with artists like Markus, capturing the spirit of a generation in transition – between analog grit and melodic futurism. But the musical path didn’t stop there.

Today, octave plateau bridges four distinct yet emotionally intertwined genres:

Smooth Jazz – music like warm light on late-night streets; gentle grooves, atmospheric chords, and melodies that breathe and linger. It’s the sound of reflection and release, crafted with subtlety and soul.

New Wave – shimmering synths, melancholic harmonies, and rhythm-driven storytelling. A style rooted in the 80s, but constantly reinterpreted to reflect the tension and beauty of the now.

Deutscher Schlager – emotional, melodic, and lyrical. I approach this genre with both respect and reinvention – drawing from its traditions while reshaping its form for contemporary ears.

Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW) – raw, ironic, and rhythmic. NDW has always been the rebellious heart of octave plateau, combining German lyrics with electronic textures, punk aesthetics, and a dose of playful absurdity.

In 2024, these songs – some newly written, others rediscovered and reimagined – are being produced in the octave plateau studio in Berlin. Here, the past and the present meet in harmony and friction. Analog synthesizers hum alongside digital clarity. Stories unfold in every track – sometimes with a wink, sometimes with a sigh.

octave plateau is not just a musical alias. It’s a lifelong project, a personal archive, and a sonic playground. Welcome to a place where genres speak to one another – and where every note has a memory.
