John Weldon "JJ" Cale was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter, his influence as a musical artist has been recognized by figures such as Neil Young, Mark Knopfler, Waylon Jennings and Eric Clapton, who described him as one of the most important artists of the rock history.
He authored songs like "After Midnight" (1966) or the world-renowned "Cocaine" (1976), both known for their performance by his friend Eric Clapton. 
May this rework serve as recognition for a not so well-known but truly talented artist.

For this I am playing along to a backing track I recorded earlier.

I am using a Marshall Code 50 amp in the 03 Old School setting which puts a bit of wobble onto the sound. I have gone for a bass-heavy approach and am using fingers and thumb to create the rhythmic pattern, paying homage to the way Ray Bonneville plays.

The chord progression is simply Gm, C7 and D7.

In terms of sound settings, I have gone for quite a bit of bass and a fair bit of gain however I have rolled off the treble a bit but kept the middle where it is.

For the soloing over the top. I have again opted for a fingers and thumb approach. Going for a Jimmie Vaughan type of sound. Exactly the same settings on the amp. Both tone pots in the middle or thereabouts and the selector switch in the neck position.

I am playing a Squier 50th Anniversary Edition strat (solid alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets) but I have swapped out the pickups and replaced them with Smitty '64 Blues pickups.

I am accompanied part way through by my pet crickets and in fine voice, they all were.

By 1979, Cale had recorded four albums, his debut Naturally being the most commercially successful and containing the minor hit "Crazy Mama". While his albums did not sell in high numbers, Cale enjoyed great success as a songwriter when other artists recorded his songs, like Eric Clapton ("After Midnight" in 1970 and "Cocaine" in 1977) and Lynyrd Skynyrd ("Call Me the Breeze" in 1974), providing the Oklahoma singer with a degree of financial security to pursue his musical vision. By the time he recorded 5, Cale had also met singer and guitarist Christine Lakeland, and the LP marks her first appearance on his albums. In the 2005 documentary To Tulsa and Back, Lakeland says they met backstage at a prison benefit show featuring B.B. King and Waylon Jennings. Cale and Lakeland would later marry.
