Welcome to "Talking MEWShop" Episode 2 featuring filmmaker Micheal Canzoniero and Manhattan Edit Workshop Founder Josh Apter, President Jason Banke, and Raphi Salem of Salem Global.  

In this episode we talk about still finding and developing talented filmmakers from indie film world, changes in the industry with AI coming in, how the current industry can evolve and stay and integral part of the system above technology for job security. We also discuss how Hollywood looks at the current Indie film industry as a way to bring films to the big screen, how pacing has changed in films for the next generation of consumers, nostalgia for Sound One in New York City and much more!

Michael Canzoniero is an award-winning director, producer, and cinematographer who has worked in a range of mediums. His first narrative feature Wedding Bros (which he co-wrote and directed) premiered at the SXSW Film Festival ‘09 and his follow-up feature Don Peyote had a 30-city theatrical release.  He recently wrote, produced and directed the comedy feature film “Making the Day.”

He is the owner of MCM CREATIVE Manhattan-based production and postproduction facility in Chelsea.  They produce television, documentary, indie features and commercials (https://www.mcmcreativeproductions.com).

"Talking MEWShop" Episode 3 features filmmaker and educator Jamie Hitchings, along with Manhattan Edit Workshop Founder Josh Apter, President Jason Banke, and Raphi Salem of Salem Global. 

The episode covers the evolution of documentary filmmaking, emphasizing its growth with digital distribution and the popularity of docuseries. The role of MEWShop in preparing editing students is discussed, focusing on the multifaceted skills required beyond technical proficiency. Jamie Hitchings offers guidance to aspiring documentary filmmakers, emphasizing authenticity, perseverance, and problem-solving skills. The challenges of acquiring music rights and balancing self-funding with external funding for passion projects are explored, with a specific focus on Jamie's film, "Catching Air." The episode provides valuable insights into the intricacies of the documentary filmmaking process.

A film-obsessed nerd since as far back as she can remember, it's no wonder that Jamie Hitchings became a filmmaker. Specifically, she's a post-production specialist whose work reflects an interest in technology and asks tough questions about how it affects humanity. Hitchings teaches college-level post-production and film history and is also a freelance editor for the United Nations. She is a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute and completed her Masters at NYU. Her first feature-length documentary "Catching Air" was born out of a strong desire to create a story from something that most people are not familiar with. Through this documentary, Hitchings hopes to not just to spread knowledge and dispel myths about the fringe creative world of international air guitar, but also to inspire others to explore thing that lie just outside of their own daily routines.

"Talking MEWShop" Episode 4 features Editor Joe Schuck, along with Manhattan Edit Workshop Founder Josh Apter, President Jason Banke, and Raphi Salem of Salem Global. 

Joe Schuck is not only a Six Week Intensive Workshop alumni, but he is also a successful Editor in the reality TV industry. In this episode Joe talks with the team about his journey into the industry, taking the Six Week class and pivoting several times in his career even with pay cuts to eventually get where he is today. 

Joe Schuck is a reality television editor with over a decade's worth of credits and a Manhattan Edit Workshop Alumn of 2008.  Starting as a baseball highlights editor at MLB.Com, Joe found time to work as an editing trainer at MEWShop after he finished the Six Week Intensive.  After some time and many editing side hustles, he met a contact who introduced him to a small reality TV production company that eventually created the Discovery Channel hit show "Alaskan Bush People." Beginning as an Assistant Editor, he worked on several shows and eventually moved up to lead editor.  Since then, Joe has worked on projects for  Discovery Channel, HGTV, Lifetime, and for the last six years has been working on the "90 Day Fiance" franchise for TLC.

"Talking MEWShop" Episode 5 features Editors Jeffrey and Zach Wolf, along with Manhattan Edit Workshop Founder Josh Apter, President Jason Banke, and Raphi Salem of Salem Global. 

In this episode Jeffrey and Zach Wolf share their backgrounds and journeys as two different generations of Editors. Jeffrey discuss his influences, including Barry Malkin and DeDe Allen and Zach talks about growing up with a feature film Editor as a Dad and what he has learned from him. They also talk about the impact of COVID-19 on the editing industry, their current projects, and the importance of multiple skill sets in editing.

As an editor, Jeffrey Wolf, ACE, is recognized for his film work with prominent directors Arthur Penn, John Sayles, John Waters, Ted Demme, Lasse Hallström, Brad Anderson, Debbie Reinisch and  George C.Wolf.  Some of his films include "Billy Madison," "Beautiful Girls," "The Ref," "Life," "Holes," and "Dear John."  The film "Bachelorette" and "A.C.O.D." played at the 2012 and 2013 Sundance Film Festivals.  Jeff finished "You’re Not You" starring Hilary Swank and Emmy Rossum last year, and recently completed the film The Outskirts coming out in 2015.

As a Director of Documentaries, he made the acclaimed documentary film "James Castle: Portrait of an Artist," and is currently in production on "Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts."

Zach Wolf was born and raised on the Upper West Side in New York City.  After graduating from New York University Tisch School of Film and TV, Wolf pursued his love of filmmaking through editing, something he observed first-hand watching his father splice film. Wolf has worked on many feature films, including "The Woman in the Window," "BlackKklansman," and "The Big Sick." He’s edited various shorts highlighted by the Funny or Die video “What’s Next for Jack Antonoff,” directed by Mike Birbiglia and the innovative “Vice News Tonight” for HBO. In between feature films, Wolf has made numerous short documentaries about outsiders and self-taught artists, an interest he developed at a very young age. He is the co-director of "The Dukha" (Mountainfilm 2023).

In June 2021, Annie Nelson graduated from high school in Atlanta, Georgia, and began teaching herself Final Cut Pro to edit comedy videos for her friends on YouTube. She discovered a passion for making people smile through her work. In April 2022, she moved to New York City to attend the Manhattan Edit Workshop's Six Week Intensive Program. Shortly after, Annie returned to Los Angeles and became the head of post-production for the popular YouTube channel "Topper Guild," which now has 47 million subscribers.
