For this episode of The Underground Assault Podcast I had UK artist Balrog on the show. Balrog is an artist from Leeds (UK) who has been steadily blowing up over the past few years. His music gravitates towards the darker and grittier side of industrial techno with a focus on heavy unrelenting drums, driving bass and obscure distorted vocal. His tracks look back to the classic hard and grooving Techno of the early 2000's, but with a fresh injection of modern industrial power. With multiple releases on labels including The Meaning Of Rave, COUP, Green Fetish and Gobsmacked, Balrog has made a name for himself in the underground Techno scene. We sat him down and got him to spit the facts on such topics as his early influences, motivations behind founding Khazad Records, dealing with label problems, having his music supported by Dax J, Amelie Lens & Manni Dee, linking up with Rebekah, challenges as a producer during the pandemic and much more.

KHAEX01 comes courtesy of label chief Balrog. 

From the very start, this track thunders along with Balrog's trademark industrial drums and percussion. However, as the song develops we witness Balrog's production versatility with the implementation of an alluring chord sequence and resonant synth stabs. These heavenly synths lull the listener into a false sense of security before slamming once again into Balrog's signature powerful industrial groove.

GFX, is a Spanish DJ and producer based in London who fell in love with techno in 2012. For him music is a way of traveling and escaping reality, freeing yourself and your emotions.

GFX is heavily influenced by early 90s Acid and Trance sounds that are evident in his releases on multiple releases including Khazad. Bringing these different styles together has allowed GFX to find his musical world, giving him a true way to express his emotions between groove, acid, and a fast rhythm.

vrov caught our attention from the very first time we heard his infectious industrial grooves. He was consequently invited to be part of KHAVA02 and we have never looked back! 

This Berlin-based DJ and producer has very quickly moulded his individual style of raw and uncompromising techno. Through his productions, he develops raw intoxicating tracks with high energy levels throughout which have attracted some great labels to his music including SKUXX, Taro and Insane Industry.

For Episode 023 of the Khazad Podcast, we are very happy to present a label favourite and rising UK talent, Tim Williams.

Ahead of the release of his first Khazad EP on the 17th of February, he has provided us with a blistering mix full of industrial power and including a number of tracks from the forthcoming EP.

Kent based producer Tim Williams is a fast rising star in the UK industrial scene, with multiple releases on Taro Records, Matiere and now Khazad under his belt. A musical education steeped in metal, post-hardcore and old school dub, all meshed together with cinematic ambience and washed out synths form his signature, aggressive style. 

His mix for Khazad showcases the relentless nature of the music he loves, with quick cuts and subtle blends. It features lots of original material including 3 tracks from his upcoming Khazad EP ‘Fever Dream’, as well as music from SNTS, Peryl, Trudge, D.N.P, Buried Secrets and more.

INDUSTRIAL IN YOUR NOSTRILS 

Khazad Records is the brainchild of label chief Balrog. 

The concept of the label was born out of a desire to release hard, industrial, and grooving techno, while also providing a platform for the best young producers to showcase their talent. In doing so, this will hopefully enable the further development of the current hard techno and industrial renaissance.

Khazad Records is a wholly inclusive collective. For this reason, every attempt will be made to ensure an even as possible gender balance of artists. In doing so we hope to address the gender imbalances that are still ever-present within the techno scene. 

As well as showcase the hottest talent in the UK right now, the label will also hope to unearth the future stars of the scene through a fully open demo policy:

- All demos will be listened too, this may mean that it takes some time for us to respond but rest assured we will get back to you and make every attempt to offer constructive advice if the demo does not suit the label.
- Tracks DO NOT need to be mastered before sending, we are looking for raw talent not the final product.
