Hello and welcome to the Lithuanian Archives Project (LAP) Sound Cloud channel! I am Audra Adomenas. Check out our spotlighted recording ... the very first of many!!!!I hope you enjoy my very first oral history interview ... back from 2002! 

It is the only ever recorded oral history interview with Lithuania's first woman pilot and parachutist, Antanina Liorentaite! She was a very modest, humble woman, and was surpised when I asked her, still a teen, living at home with my mom, if I can go to her house with my yellow-colored children's "Sony" casette tape recorder! (children of the 1990's ... does anyone remember these??) 

I was always interested in the recording of history - I asked my mom -while she washed the dishes - if she thought anyone ever recorded her voice - she thought for a second, and she said "I don't think so!" With both a little bit of fear as well as excitement, I brought one tape from my house - and ended up taping over both sides to complete her interview! At the time ... as a teen .... I was filled with fear .... "why would she tell me her story?" I thought. Would she even open up to me? I knew her only as my grandmother's best friend - my grandmother's other best friends were the renowned Petronele Orintaite (famous Lithuanian poet)  my grandmother's other best friend was Antanina Noreikiene - Silvia Foti's grandmother (renowned Lithuanian novelist and writer, and also mother of Dalia Kuceniene - the well-known Lithuanian opera singer) and also Antanina Liorentaite (Lithuania's first woman pilot and parachutist!) I have so many unique memories of growing up among these women, who both awed me and inspired me! I feel lucky to have known Antanina Liorentaite personally - and I feel honored to share her legacy and this recording with you.
