KHOST - 'Many Things Afflict Us Few Things Console Us' CD / LP / Ltd LP

The 5th album from Birmingham-based industrial/doom metal band Khost sees the band forging new and at times nightmarish territories, alongside their signature walls of detuned guitar, corroded percussion and VHS atmospherics.

Inspiration for many of the tracks came from countless live shows and even soundcheck experiments in which extreme, harsh electronics evolved, as did punk/early industrial tempos, all of which were then fused into the DNA of ""Many Things Afflict Us Few Things Console Us".

Khost remark: "We hoped that the experience would be something like venturing into an off-limits wing of some gallery after-hours, with each turn more disorientating than where you just were".

Collaborators include AXEBREAKER (aka Terence Hannum of Locrian), acclaimed cellist JO QUAIL, and Berlin-based sound designer MANUEL LIEBESKIND.

The CD and the vinyl are different beasts. The CD is reinforced with 7 extra tracks including ADRIAN STAINBURNER's incredible remix of 'Yellow Light' featuring STEPHEN MALLINDER (Cabaret Voltaire, Wrangler) on vocals, and BERENECES adding his signature deep, dark D&B sound to the track 'Death Threat'. The LP editions feature a different mix by Khost especially for vinyl.

My mixing is so bad I still don't really have any idea what I'm doing. There's a mix of things you have to account for when you mix. You have to account for the listening environment that someone might hear the song on. For instance, someone might be listening in their car with those cheap speakers car manufactures put in. Or alternatively you could listen to it through phone speakers. Or headphones, earbuds, the list goes on. I usually mix on two Yamaha HS-8s but I don't really follow spatial law for where I place them. (In fact there's a TV between me and my right speaker! What?!) Anyway I try my best but often I use too much saturation or stereo panning and it creates grit in masters. Whatever, I'm the Naïve Composer I can do what I want.

Thinks Digital Hardcore is the peak of music, you can't make him think otherwise.

Probably the inventor of the term "Violent Lo-Fi". Meaning the older "Lofi-esque" style of digital hardcore breakbeat soundtracks. Artists/bands like Ec8or (Eradicator) and Christoph De Babalon (a lot of DHR falls into this category lol).

I like to experiment with guitar, I’m self taught and I’ve been playing since the age of 9.
