Pulleys and Gears

Fossil evidence for evolution. Many rock layers contain fossils of both extinct species and species that exist today. This presents a fascinating opportunity to see if the species alive today have evolved compared to their fossilised ancestors. Research examining this found no change between the species, despite the assumed age of the fossils being millions of years in the past. If evolution occurred and continues to occur, why haven't the species alive today changed dramatically?

Fossil Evidence for Evolution? part 3 - SC2518

Work environment soundscape while I was working on some project on my home computer. 
We can hear keyboard typing sounds as well as other sounds - mouse clicking, phone vibrating. 
There was also a constant background sound because the window was open, and there is a park just outiside. We can hear humming sounds of cars passing by not far away.
The typing sound is fairly loud due to a mechanical keyboard.

Week Sound 1 - Home Environment (Work Setting)

I came home for the weekend. While my mom was making dinner (my favorite dish, might i add) I was surrounded by the familiar sounds I heard so many times before. The washing machine that "never" stops, the sink, the clapping of drawers and doors against their own furniture and even the fire getting lit to prepare a delicious meal. I can also hear my father in the background, telling us (once again) to turn off the lights that aren't being used. 

A sound of a cat, one of my companions, calling for attention while watching us in the kitchen.
She (my cat) starts looking at us with the cutest little eyes while pointing one of her paws in our direction, eagerly waiting for something (food?) while my mum questions what she might be doing.

Week Sound 1 - Home Environment (“Kitchen”)

This was recorded early in the morning barely after me waking up. My bedroom is on the 3rd floor and is directly connected to the balcony, so I can hear everything that happens outside and in this particular morning I was woken up by the construction work happening.

On the record we can listen to my mother making lunch while I go off to play a little with my cat (Dusty) with a laser, for me these sounds are the ones more associated with the meaning of the word “home”. Sometimes it’s possible to listen a constante clicking that is from the laser for Dusty aknowledge where the light is and his claws on the floor while trying to catch the light while the constant sound that comes from the kitchen is still audible.

The confused and overwhelming sound of the gym. From stepping and running on threadmills to the sound of metal plates hitting eachother with each exercise repetition

Week 4 - Rythms and Patternss

"Noite dos Bombos" is a celebration that takes place in my hometown, Mirandela, on the first friday of August. What started as a hangout between friends has now turned into a sixty-year-old tradition.
The whole city goes out around 9pm to watch the parade ("Marcha Luminosa"), and only at 1am do the bass drums leave the sanctuary and start playing throughout the city.
What makes this celebration special is that there are no requirements to join the fun, you just need to be able to stay awake long enough.
For my interpretation of "Dawn" i wanted the listener to feel what it's like to walk home from this party, especially when crossing Ponte Nova, a semi-narrow bridge that connects the old part of the city to the sanctuary and the city park (usually where the summer fair takes place). 
On that night there is really no silence- wheter it is the drums, whistles or bumping into friends you haven't seen in a long time. The only moment of silence arrives when we reach home and yet the muffled sound of drums can still be heard in the distance.
Personally it was something so normal to me that i thought every place had something like this, so i was genuinely in shock when told otherwise.
The drum patterns are truly a soundmark of the city, being so ingrained into our bones that we don't even notice that we are mindlessly tapping it on the table or dancing to it.
