With its infectious melody, emotional lyrics and expert production (Dan Cox, Urchin Studios) and creative mastering (Stephen Kerrison, Weird Jungle Collective), ‘Bizarre Blood’ showcases Emma and the Fragment's signature sound; driving backbeats, rhythmic indie guitars and Emma’s bright and pure vocals.

Inspired by Emma’s childhood experiences, the lyrics tell the story through to adulthood. It explores the impact of a mental health disorder on a child and themes of anxiety, apprehension and isolation. Culminating in the declaration of the chorus, is it nature or nature and fear of inheriting the same disorder.

Speaking about the new single Emma said, “We are excited to share the single with our fans. The song is really important to us, and we think it is a great introduction to our upcoming EP.”

The genre of the song is indie rock/post punk, inspired by bands like the Editors and Florence and the Machine.

Cap 4. Transtorno Bipolar - Desmitificando la Salud Mental

Ruminations & Affirmations was commissioned by Jackson Thomas for a culminating doctoral study at the University of Kansas centered on the pedagogy of minimalist vocal techniques. The piece is inspired by elements of Minimalism, as well as the composer's personal experiences with anxiety and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). The first half, Ruminations, features an incessant motor and an "obsessive thought" in the piano that keeps restarting, followed by frantic intrusive worries sung by the choir. The Ruminations section climaxes into a slowly building wall of anxiety featuring counting and various obsessive thoughts from which the singers may choose. This gives way to the choir taking a breath, holding it, and slowly exhaling along with the slowing motor in the piano, resting on B Major. 

The second half, Affirmations, begins in the calmer Parallel E Major with a slower, more peaceful motor in the Piano. The choir then sings meditative observations based on their senses, which is adapted from the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique, often used to calm an anxious mind (it asks the person to name 5 things they can see,  4 things they can feel, 3 things they can hear, 2 things they can smell, and 1 thing they can taste). The idea is to gently bring one's consciousness back into the present and immediate physical world. The section concludes with the choir singing repeating affirmations, often used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to treat anxiety and OCD.

EEmma and the Fragments are an energetic female-fronted indie rock band based in East London. Formed in 2012 by founding member Emma, she leads the band on vocals with Donn on guitar, Jon on drums and latest addition Jonny on bass. 

Emma and the Fragments have made a name for themselves with their hard-edged indie rock and released 4 singles across 2021 to critical acclaim – Circle of Concern, Part of the Wildlife, Back to Blue and Proper Everything from the forthcoming EP ‘Smile ‘Til It. Hurts’ 

Inspired by 90s indie rock the band take their influences one step further, exploring a mulititude of styles from pop to metal, and display a sound that at times is both dark and brooding or light and fun, complete with catchy melodies and driving guitars. Their music would be equally at home in the playlists of both the most ardent The Cure fan, or a serious lover of Circa Waves, Foals or The Mysterines.

In addition to last year’s single releases they have signed a record deal with London based label Regent Street Records, hosted their own sold out day festival ‘FRAGFEST’ and have recently won the Wigwam Radio Best Indie Rock Act 2021 Award against fierce competition.

2022 is set to be even bigger for the band with new releases and live shows coming across the year

I am a singer-songwriter based in the LA area. I have been writing songs since I was 10, and have fallen more deeply in love with music every day since then. My songwriting style is an eclectic blend of pop, country, classical, and folk. I love every kind of music and try to bring that open mind to every song I write. As a composer, I pay close attention to how the different parts in a song fit together.
