In this episode, hosts Mike and Andrea speak with President and Chief Executive Officer of Garden Savings Federal Credit Union, Mike Powers. Michael Powers is a 29-year veteran in the credit union industry who has spent the last fourteen years of his career at Garden Savings Federal Credit Union.  Mr. Powers was recently named President and Chief Executive Officer of the credit union effective this past January 1st.  He began his career as a teller in 1993 and has risen through the ranks serving as a Vice President of Marketing and Compliance at his former employer and later, Chief Sales Officer / Vice President of Lending, Marketing, Business Development and Training for Garden Savings Federal Credit Union.  The credit union is the 8th largest in New Jersey, serving the financial needs of nearly 30,000 members and boasting over $420 million dollars in assets.  They are committed to providing quality financial services, great rates and top notch customer service as they strive to live up to their tag line of being, “A Better Place to Bank.”

Maria La Face was appointed to the position of Director of the Ocean County Office of Senior Services on August 1, 2018.

Ms. La Face graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 1990 and went on to earn her Juris Doctorate at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA in 1994. She is licensed to practice law in both New Jersey and California. In 2009, Ms. La Face also earned a Leadership Certificate from Columbia University, New York, New York.

Ms. La Face has dedicated her legal career to protecting the rights of indigent, disabled and elderly clients and ensuring they have equal access to the justice system. She started her legal career as a staff attorney for the Community Health Law Project representing seniors and disabled clients in civil legal matters including housing, domestic violence and entitlement cases. Ms. La Face accepted the position of Director of Litigation with Ocean Monmouth Legal Services in 2004 and continued her advocacy efforts by directing the legal work of the office and supervising, training and mentoring agency staff attorneys and paralegals.

Ms. La Face’s advocacy efforts extend well beyond the courtroom and include testifying before the Senate Committee on poverty issues, serving as Board Chair of the Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy and participating in the Ocean County Human Services Advisory Council.

Ms. La Face was appointed to the Age-Friendly State Advisory Council on March 2, 2021. As the Director of Senior Services, Ms. La Face focuses her advocacy efforts on the rights of Older Adults in Ocean County. In her role as the Director for the Ocean County Office of Senior Services, she is committed to ensuring that our seniors have access to the services needed to allow them to live independently in their homes and communities with the dignity and respect they deserve.
