In today's episode, we're covering Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece, Princess Mononoke. Set during Japan's late Muromachi period and incorporating fantastical elements, the tale centers on Ashitaka, a young prince of the Emishi people, as he becomes entangled in a conflict between the forest's spirits and the humans exploiting its resources. The film explores a recurring theme in Studio Ghibli's works: environmentalism, presented as a response to the effects of industrialization, framed within the traditions of Shintoism, animism, and folklore.

"The Reason Why" is a combination of a few inspirations:

#1 is Studio Ghibli's, "Princess Mononoke". This is my favorite Ghibli film and has inspired so much of the music I make.

#2 is the sampled track, "The Reason Why - Ayasa". The moment I heard this track, my perspective on how I view music shifted greatly to a more story-based type of telling. I had to make my own version.

Princess Mononoke (or Mononoke Hime to Japanese speakers) was one of the first Studio Ghibli films I saw.  My mom got it for me on DVD many years ago.

A number of things pushed me toward remixing this track from the legendary film.  I was invited to a gaming event by a friend of mine.  The Miami Pixel Symphony was there, performing classical renditions of various video game & anime songs, this being among them.

That same friend would later invite me to a showing of the film but I was unable to go due to a prior engagement, so in a way, this serves as an apology for that.

I relistened to the original song several times to get an idea on how to adapt this for the dancefloor.  I hope you enjoy the result.  It's available for FREE DOWNLOAD.

Other than Bandlab to master this, NO AI was used in the creation of this remix.  ;)

Nice to meet you. My name is Randy Derricott, an Autistic EDM DJ/producer & Pharmacy Tech based in Coral Springs, Florida (a suburb of Fort Lauderdale) by way of Richmond, Virginia.
