Long ago, Alan Turing devised what is now known as the Turing Test: “a test for intelligence in a computer, requiring that a human being should be unable to distinguish the machine from another human being by using the replies to same questions when put to both.”

While generally speaking “Artificial Intelligence” is still about “machine intelligence”, the definition, goals, approach, philosophy and technology behind Artificial Intelligence has been evolving significantly since its official birth in 1956. AI is no longer about a machine just trying to be human but what can the machine do better than humans. One such goal of AI is ‘Automation’. It is currently of the widest appeal to enterprise given its potential for operational efficiency and human error reduction. Forrester in its latest report of Robotic Process Automation The Forrester Wave, dated Feb 2017 said that it received 100 queries on RPA in just 6 months.

That’s what I recently chatted about with Lindsey Shellman, Vice President at WIN (Web Integrated Network), where she’s responsible for sales, operational, and strategic direction. “We identified early on that shippers wanted a tool to manage their own shipping,” Lindsey said. The old way to do it: Make a bunch of calls. Get a bunch of quotes and compare them. Go to different websites and start typing. Print stuff out. Try to coordinate all the info somehow. “It's not efficient and it takes up a lot of time,” Lindsey said. Cue the new way: WIN. “It's a single platform that you can use to manage all of your shipping,” she explained. “It takes a lot of time out of the process and provides a lot more efficiency.” Because everything’s integrated.
