Australia's Liberal-National Coalition partners have controversially abandoned their 'Net Zero' emissions policy in favour of a more balanced, pragmatic approach. This important distinction between ruling Labour government and conservative opposition is inspired by a newly released policy paper from the Page Research Centre.  "Delivering a High Energy Australia" argues the net zero strategy is failing due to rising costs, industry decline, and environmental damage. It proposes a High Energy Australia approach that prioritizes lower energy prices, reduces emissions at a realistic pace and embraces all energy technologies, including nuclear, coal, and gas. Last week I spoke with Nick Cruse of the ‪@revolutionaryblackoutnetwork‬  about what Marjorie Taylor Green and Zohran Mamdani can tell us about the state of bourgeois politics in the imperialist heartlands. 

We also talked about the creation of controlled opposition, with a particular focus on the pseudo-revolutionary anticommunism of imperialist agent Leon Trotsky and the movement he spawned (Trotskyism).

We discussed the true impact of the Soviet Union during the period of VI Lenin and Josef Stalin's leadership of socialist construction, and just why and how workers in the west have been lied to about the USSR's phenomenal achievements.

Meanwhile, the US ruling class continues its genocidal campaign to try to starve the Cuban people into submission. After decades of resisting such efforts, what is the source of the tremendous resilience of this tiny island nation?

We also spoke about the economic crisis that is gripping the world capitalist system; why it is driving the monopolists and financiers into ever more war, and why we can expect more lay-offs and more austerity at home.

The truth is clearer than ever: socialism or fascist barbarism. We can keep begging for crumbs that are not going to come and keep allowing our rulers a free hand to drown the world in blood, or we can take hold of revolutionary Marxist science, build a real working-class organisation, and wage a determined struggle for socialist liberation.

AI is merely a developmental flag-post in the inevitably developing forces of reproduction and as it approach the bubble burst, we will be thrown into another capitalist crisis. The only way in which we move forward is socialism. AI must be used to help the mass of workers, not to enrich the few.

What will we do when AI takes our jobs

Wilfredo Hernandez of the Venezuelan Embassy in the UK denounces the escalation of the US towards War. Trump has placed a bounty of 50 million dollars on the head of President Nicholas Maduro - democratically elected President of Venezuela, as if her was some cheap gangster in a Hollywood movie. 

Trump has classed President Comrade Nicholas Maduro and the Venezuelan Bolivarian government of the PSUV to be "Narco-trafficers" and a "Narco-state" - in defiance of all evidence and logic. The US imperialists have attacked and murdered 80 Venezuelans, sailing small vessels within Venezuelan sovereign waters, on the flimsy pretext that they were 'drug traffickers' - without providing a shred of evidence. Venezuela according to global governance bodies does not produce or transport cocaine or other drugs. It is a global anti-narcotic haven of peace and tranquility, thanks to its socialist and popular government since the Bolivarian revolution began.

Yet USA has assembled an armada off the coast of Venezuela. It is clear that Trump and the US, here as elsewhere, seek domination and not democracy. They want to get their hands on Venezuela's huge oil, gold and other mineral resources, and once again have free reign to exploit the labour power of her people.

But the Venezuelan people - unbowed in the face of this military provocation, which comes on top of decade of escalating sanctions and an all-out economic war that has totally failed to destabilise and subvert their sovereign will - remain unbowed and have mobilised both the regular army and the people to defend their nation. 

There has been an unprecedented response among the masses of the Venezuelan people, who have enrolled in the people's militia in their tens and hundreds of thousands.

Viva Venezuela! Viva Chavez! Viva Maduro! Long live the Great Socialist October Revolution! Communa o Nada!

29: What is Fascism?

In today’s world, anyone serious about anti-imperialism, global development, and monetary sovereignty needs to break through the well-funded US propaganda machine and develop a fact-based, nuanced understanding of China. 

To this end, Steve asked Yan Liang to come back to the podcast to look at China through the MMT lens, analyzing its economic management, global role, and response to Western villainization. They discuss China’s development ethos and describe China as a state that actively uses its monetary and fiscal sovereignty to guide development towards internal goals (poverty alleviation, technological self-reliance, common prosperity) and external partnership (Win-win cooperation, Belt and Road Initiative).  

Illustrating the difference between state steering and the so-called “free market,” the conversation goes into China’s mobilization of real resources through strategic state guidance, like Five-Year Plans and state-owned enterprises in key sectors.  

Yan talks about the use of capital controls and a managed exchange rate. She details lessons from 2015 and the application of MMT principles to insulate domestic policy from volatile external forces. 

Without romanticizing China, Yan also walks through its real challenges. But from an MMT-aware lens, these are seen as problems of policy design and resource use – issues a sovereign, planning-oriented state can address – rather than proof of an impending collapse. 

Yan Liang is Peter C and Bonnie S Kremer Chair Professor of Economics at Willamette University. She is also a Research Associate at the Levy Economics Institute, a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Global Development Policy Center (Boston University), and a Research Scholar of the Global Institute for Sustainable Prosperity. 

Yan specializes in the Modern Monetary Theory (MMT), the Political Economy of China, Economic Development, and International Economics. Yan's current research focuses on China's development finance and industrial transformation, and China's role in the global financial architecture.
