This nameless song explores the boundaries of spatial sound with eight layers of acoustic-electric guitar, spiraling around the listener in a full-circle auditory field: W-NW-N-NE-E-SE-S-SW.

Performed on a Fender Acoustasonic and routed through a BOSS delay with finite echo, each layer captures a moment in time, unfolding across the stereo spectrum to immerse the listener in the auditory experience.

Inspired by my earlier piece, Voyage of the Leaf Upon the Sea, this track continues my exploration of time, space, and resonance.

'Gesang der Maschinen' is an immersive audio walk that unveils the hidden sonic landscapes behind the scenes of the opera house. Through a ten-channel sound installation, Nathalie Brum brings to the forefront the often-overlooked mechanical sounds that underpin opera and theatrical productions. Presented both inside and in the outdoor spaces of the opera house, the installation transforms the venue into a space resonanting into public space where the backstage machinery takes center stage. 

By capturing and recontextualizing the ambient noises of ventilation systems, dimmer cabinets, and other backstage equipment, Brum invites listeners to experience the opera house from a new auditory perspective. The project challenges traditional notions of music and noise, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the acoustic environments that often go unnoticed.

'Gesang der Maschinen' not only highlights the intricate interplay between architecture and sound but also prompts a reflection on the often-invisible infrastructures that shape our sensory experiences in public spaces.

"Holographic Eden" is a slow, immersive journey through an alien biome—where time stretches and reality blurs. Swirling ambient pads merge with distant metallic bells, reverse cello swells, and barely-there synthesized voices, processed through shifting delays and spatial filters. Violins emerge like ghostly transmissions, while field recordings (captured in Ecuador’s Cuyabeno rainforest) warp into something unrecognizable. Perfect for introspective sci-fi scenes, dystopian world-building, or VR environments.

This is the binaural version of a 20-minute Ambisonic sound composition exploring Silbo Gomero, the whistled language of La Gomera in the Canary Islands.

Recorded and composed in La Gomera, Canary Islands, the work explores Silbo Gomero, the island’s whistled language once used to communicate across valleys. Through field recordings, narration, and spatial sound, the piece traces the fading resonance of this unique oral tradition — where echoes, silence, and memory intertwine.

Nathalie Brum (born 1988 in Katowice in Poland) is a sound artist and architect living and working in Cologne. Her main interest lies in underlying and overseen infrastructures and its soundscape. Her fieldrecordings of background noise and technical sounds are the basis of her sound transformations. The installations strongly connected to the space of its origin translocate sounds from hidden places to the public.
