Did you know that every 4 1/2 minutes, a baby is born with a birth defect in the United States? Birth defects affect 1 in every 33 babies born in the US each year, translating to about 120,000 babies, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sandra Nieto will share her story of how her son, Clay, contracted group B strep on the third day of his life and became part of that statistic. She says, “My beautiful child, Clay, was blind, had cerebral palsy, was fed via a G-tube with a twenty-four-hour feeding pump, and took as many as thirty-two medications a day.”
Our third guest is James Amorosi, founder, CEO, and Managing Partner of The Legacy Fund. Today, he will discuss his life, the Legacy Fund, and the mission behind it. Mr. Amorosi has 35 years of experience in the private equity and hedge funds industry. He has been CEO of AMO Investment, a private equity and venture capital firm, since 2001. His career includes working at the largest privately held broker-dealer in commodities, currencies, and debt instruments as a foreign exchange trader and primary market maker in the vanilla inter-bank and broker market G-7 currency pairs. He has also held positions at prestigious hedge funds like Tudor Investments and Rand Management as a managing director, senior trader, and quantitative systems developer.

Each February, hundreds of people go for a swim in the cold Atlantic Ocean, for a good cause. “Freezin’ For a Reason,” the Isle of Palms annual Polar Plunge is a benefit event for Special Olympics, hosted by the Mount Pleasant Police Department. The Public Information Officer for the Mount Pleasant PD, Lt. Ashley Croy share the specific information on the Saturday, February 22nd event. Croy provided details on how individuals could register to participate and the other elements that would be included with the “Plunge” like a costume contest and post plunge concert. The officer also discussed the department’s relationship with Special Olympics and the ways this event benefited those athletes, and their families.

Inflation is a challenge for everyone, but more so with those on a fixed income. The Charleston Area Senior Citizens & Berkeley Seniors, Inc. implement Meals on Wheels in those two counties. Donna Cook, the organization’s Executive Director shared the challenges the Means On Wheels program is facing. Cook explained the importance of the program to area seniors, both in nutrition and the companionship those seniors receive through daily visits. Over 300 seniors are currently on a waiting list to receive Meals on Wheels. Additionally, the organization has a shortage of volunteers to deliver the food. Cook provided information on how seniors can get on the wait list and how individuals can volunteer to assist the organization.

1987 WENT TO Nashville for a “short week” Music row to make the big time … wow … nobody listens in lawsuit land in those days. 1988 WENT TO NASHVILLE for 3 days (surely, I would crack this puzzle and become famous …) so many on benches in front of churches. Frustrated, didn’t sing publicly again basically for 25 years. (after all, where would a singer/song writer, make a name for himself in Karaoke land).
2010 discovered open mics (new world begins). WRITING SINCE …a lot! Had someone to produce me in limited acoustic style for a couple years…I think a few were damn good “Fields of Quiet Soil”. Had a lot of offers to write lyrics and/or sing for a lot of other artists here. (but no recording capability …let alone a decent computer for my own. TODAY, THINGS CHANGE …I’m here to make an impact (got 4 new ones under my belt recently) …plus some old ones you will not be disappointed listening to. Welcome old music fans and artists., potential serious collabs.
