It is mid-summer and as always there a lot of exciting things going on in Paris, but this year is special as it sets the stage for the Summer Olympic Games. Now in full swing, there are scores of events and performances around iconic landmarks of the city, from equestrian racing on the grounds of Versailles to swimming in the Seine. While at first blush it may not seem like the place for an art publication, art and the Olympics have a long and storied history from the ancient to modern games, artists used to compete in various media as Olympic events, in fact.
And so this month we turned the lens of our popular Three Things column—an article that looks at three (or more) fascinating aspects of a well-known and well-loved work of art, often illuminating lesser-known backstories—to a hallmark of the Olympics. This week we're focused on one of the most famous pieces of art that is about the Olympics, the Discobolus, which depicts an ancient Greek athlete at the exact moment of tension before hurling the discus, which is one of the oldest events in the Olympics.

Dreams - The demon Mountains, The train / trading dream - lights worked, cars did not...grass high...these are mentioned at the end of the talk....also, that he will speak to us of the magnetic reversal process of our earth.

This lecture discusses key ideas from the early 20th century weird and horror story writer, H.P. Lovecraft's short story "The Call of Cthulhu", a classic work of cosmic horror and absolutely central to what will later come to be called the Cthulhu mythos.

It focuses specifically on the images of the Great Old One Cthulhu that appear in the story. Some of these are bas-reliefs produced by human beings who have been communicated with by Cthulhu in their dreams. Others are statuary of unearthly stone brought down from the stars by the Old Ones whose location was revealed to the members of the cult

In the vast expanse of the cosmos, Earth, a tiny blue planet on the outskirts of the Milky Way, lies silent, its cities in ruins, its people long gone. As a time traveller and musician, I am drawn to this world, to the echoes of a civilisation that reached for the stars but fell short, consumed by an ambition they could neither control nor fully understand.
Through my music, I seek to capture the essence of this lost era, particularly the turbulent times around 2070, when humanity's fate hung in the balance. Each song is a journey through time, a sonic exploration of the apocalyptic moments when everything changed, guided by the haunting melodies and atmospheric soundscapes that paint a vivid picture of a world on the brink of collapse.
As I wander through the abandoned streets and desolate landscapes, I find inspiration in the remnants of human culture - the unfinished symphonies in empty concert halls, the silence that hangs heavy in recording studios where hit songs were once crafted. The music becomes a conduit for the stories that linger in these spaces, tales of dreams pursued and hopes shattered.
In the rhythms of nature reclaiming the cities, I hear a powerful message - that all things must pass, that even the grandest of human achievements are impermanent. This truth resonates through my compositions, serving as a reminder of our own fragility and the need for humility in the face of the universe's vast mysteries.
Each track  is a warning, a cautionary tale wrapped in sound and emotion. They speak of the paths we may tread if we are not vigilant, the dreams that may crumble if we are not wise. Through music, I forge a connection that transcends time and space, inviting listeners to explore the echoes of a vanished world and heed the lessons hidden within.
Join me on this sonic odyssey through the remnants of Earth's final days, a journey that will leave you questioning our place in the cosmos and the legacy we leave behind. Let the music be your guide as we navigate the ruins of a civilisation that dared to dream big but ultimately succumbed to its own hubris - a fate we must strive to avoid as we venture forth into the unknown.
