Composed during the night air raids. Andy would simply send his loved one off to sleep after the air raid sirens stopped, then go to his studio to record yet another not-so-jolly lullaby.  This album is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. It captures the complex emotions and experiences of those living through war, and how they find solace and beauty in the midst of chaos. The kalimba, with its gentle, soothing tones, serves as a beacon of hope and comfort in these dark times.

This mini-album was supposed to be extra tracks for a bigger project, just three songs that ran late. But it turned out they would see daylight a bit sooner than the main work - "Rain in Spain" comes out in November on Protomaterial Records (protomaterial.bandcamp.com).

It's all about Spain, obviously.

Our original quintet was five of Atlantic Canada's foremost improvising composer-performers  Christoph Both (cello); Derek Charke (flutes); Steven Naylor (piano, seljefløyte, electronics); Jeff Reilly (bass clarinet); Tom Roach (drums, percussion).

Andy is an artist, an luthier, and musician from Ukraine who designs his own kalimbas and plays them.
