It has been a long and dark winter with little snow in Uppsala. Today though we had a sunny morning and the forest tits had spring feelings. In the order they appear: great tit, willow tit, crested tit, coal tit and (great spotted woodpecker). January 27, 2023. Högbyhatt, Nåsten, Uppland.

Forest tits start singing when the light returns

Great tit and tree sparrow are resident species in Sweden and you hear their calls and songs so often that you almost "filter them out". Today I focused my parabolic dish on them. Life would be so much poorer without them. Uppsala, Sweden. March 7, 2023.

I have heard some very strange songs and calls from Great Tits but this was an entirely new song to me. In the end of the recording a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker is calling.
