EP 83 - Black Widow

Although Guy Williams didn't do very well during the first season of Taskmaster NZ, and failed to become "The People's Champion" that he'd so desperately declare himself most episodes, he did have at least one moment of absolute and unobjectionable genius. With the help of a less-than-enthusiastic Paul Williams, Guy debuted his new Libyan National Anthem during the second episode of the series, after throwing a dart at a map from point blank range. Nobody could have predicted what would happen next - utilising simple, repetitive melodies and some out of time clapping, the Brothers Williams created a masterpiece. Though legend has it that Guy originally wrote an epic ballad that celebrated Libya for over 5 minutes, the version that aired left much to be desired. So, using nothing but some basic musical knowledge and a red hot passion for the original work, I have bolstered the haunting vocals and ethereal piano motif to create something that should probably never have been made in the first place, but in the words of the songwriter himself: “Pretty rousing though, eh?“

"I chose to present an energetic mix. Capricorn’s ruler Saturn is the taskmaster. We need a lot of pep and charge to get through the harsh January conditions so we can complete our mission. Saturn is a hard, dominating presence requiring discipline and direction. You need to ask for help from your friends and comfortable familiars to navigate all the obstacles Saturn throws at you. This is where the full moon in Cancer comes in. The full moon during Capricorn is where you need to look for guidance and inspiration to complete all odds and ends before the next new moon. Cancer rules the home, and the environment that nurtures you. A lot of tracks here represent a lot of artists and collectives that have influenced and inspired me over the years as a music producer and DJ. My friends are my family and home. It is an honor to represent them here in this mix."
