05 - The Moon Song

Music From the Past is a captivating project presented by the Leonardo Franceschini Project, distinguished by the intersection of classical music and the artist's own aesthetic. This project unfolds within a broad creative space, where musicians, guided by the leader's arrangements, take the listener on a journey filled with spontaneous moments and interpretations of compositions by notable figures such as Mompou, Skriabin, Messiaen, and Debussy.

The quartet, comprised of guitar and electronics, vocals and electronics, double bass, and drums, explores music with a refined blend of jazz, contemporary, and classical influences. This fusion of styles imparts a unique character to the performances, showcasing the deep musical expressions of each individual musician involved in the project.

Through this compelling marriage of the classical world and the artists' personal interpretations, Music From the Past offers an engaging and emotionally rich musical experience, promising to captivate and enchant enthusiasts of music across genres.

Three Rags For Ragtime Orchestra is an ode to the near-forgotten ragtime orchestras that dominated American society in the early 20th century, playing everywhere from dances, to parades, to parties. Each of the three rags are influenced by very specific sub-genres of ragtime and other early American music. The first is inspired by the blues-filled rags of W.C. Handy, the second is an amalgamation of different styles including high society waltzes and African American spirituals. The final movement is dedicated to the classic rag pioneered by Scott Joplin. Even though all the movements are inspired by these genres by no means are they strict pastiches and should be approached with a fresh, energetic attitude!

II. A Real Slow Waltz - from Three Rags For Ragtime Orchestra

Will Everitt is a 20-year-old composer and trumpet player living in London. He writes and performs in both classical and jazz idioms and is interested in exploring the overlap between the two genres within his compositional practice.

Will is an undergraduate at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying composition under Sylvia Lim. He is also a previous winner of the BBC Young Composer competition, and has had two works performed in concert by the BBC Concert Orchestra.
