It all started for me in 1965 when I was 14, there were some of us musicians and we used to sit on the sidewalk outside the psychedelic shop on the corner of Haite and Ashbury, San Francisco. In 1966 I was in a group that included Janis Joplin, and then with another group that became “Steppin Wolf”. After that I started to work for “The Family Dog” which was a group of freaks who made the first parties in San Francisco. Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company were like the house band. There was this explosion of awareness that hit so many young people which became the whole 60’s movement, the scene was new and everybody was so innocent, it was the first time it was being done, and there was something really magical happening. It ended in the summer of ’69 when the Rolling Stones played a free concert in San Francisco and one guy got killed in front of the stage. That was the moment the bubble burst. Everything changed after that. Nixon was President, Reagan was the Governor of California, and all over the world people had had enough. Some people stayed on in San Francisco and became yuppies, some moved off and made communes as they no longer wanted to live in the cities. Many people came to India on a spiritual trip.
In 1970 I found myself on a beach in Goa; where the psychedelic revolution was allowed to mutate and grow without government and media pressures and we synthesized a new lifestyle. We assimilated the simple life with the spiritual traditions of the East, knowing that it leads towards peace of mind. We put it together with our art, ideas, music and hippie culture. Then for many years I was in yoga sadhana, doing kriyas, pranayama, meditating for long hours several times a day, living in the jungle. I see myself as a link between the yogis of the Himalayas and being here. I began to understand how high you can really take people with music; you can give them a spiritual experience. You can take them to divine places, uplift their consciousness, open them up and give them a transfer of this power.
Dance is active meditation, when we dance we go beyond thought, beyond mind, and beyond our own individuality - to become one in the divine ecstasy of union with the cosmic spirit. This is the essence of the trance dance experience. I always said a Goa party is not a disco under the coconut trees, it is an initiation. That’s why we created our own sound, our own vibe, which has now spread all over the world. We are using it to set off a chain reaction in consciousness. This is what we call redefining the ancient tribal ritual for the twenty first century. Hopefully people become more sensitive and aware of themselves, of their surroundings and the needs of the planet. With this awareness comes understanding and compassion. That is the need of the hour and the true Goa spirit. Goa is not just a place; it’s a state of mind. What I’m doing now comes directly out of what happened to me in the 60’s. It’s natural and all fits together. It’s just been one evolution, everything’s connected.

VAPOUR RECORDINGS

Since 1997 when Kasey Taylor founded Vapour Recordings, the label has gone on and forged itself an enviable reputation, not only as one of Australia’s leading independent dance labels, but the worlds too.

When you feast your ears upon a new Vapour Recordings Ep, think of it as forward thinking dance music. If there is one defining feature of a Vapour record, it’s that it is just a little ahead of its time. The sort of tune that the average person might put back on the shelf, and then later on hear it out in a club and kick themselves because they didn’t realise how damn good it really was at first listen, and because they knew they had just let a gem of a tune slip right through their fingers.

July 2011 saw the label reach it’s landmark 100th release. The clock was wound back for this one choosing artists from the past, present and future to remix the back catalogue. The package contained some fantastic names, with remixes from the likes of Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Luis Junior, Jamie Stevens, Peter Horrevorts, Nick Warren, Dousk, Rodskeez, Fiord and many more.

There are DJs in the world who have vision. Those who can pick up a sound before it becomes popular and break it to the masses. Names like John Digweed & Hernan Cattaneo spring to mind, and Vapour releases have always found their way into the record boxes and charts of these luminaries. They are attributes that Kasey Taylor has also.

It isn’t easy to turn heads in the underground dance music scene when you are a small record label operating from the ass end of the universe! It’s harder to slip promos to DJs and radio station reps, magazine editors and so on. There’s seldom a chance to drop your own track in front of the big name DJs to prove just how effective your music can be. With that in mind, it’s a real credit that Vapour Recordings has earned a spot as premiere labels on the global market, commanding the attention of all the industry heavy weights through nothing more than releasing quality tunes. No huge advertising budgets, no massive PR campaigns, no industry schmoozing, no shit talking, no sales driven drum rolls, no poxy synth lines – Just a talented collective of like minded artists doing it well from around the globe.

Vapour has a strong reputation for releasing quality tunes and we aim to keep up our standards of the highest order.

Vapour Recordings Established 1997

For a veteran chillout producer to successfully navigate the transition to sought-after producer / remixer and DJ within the Progressive House scene, is not an easy ask. But Nick Brennan a.k.a. Tripswitch has done just that – and with distinction. It was his Tripswitch ‘Vagabond’ album (Iboga Records, 2016) that cemented his highly rated status as a key dance producer beyond doubt. The album rose to the top of the Beatport charts, hitting #1 in Electronica and holding at #2 in Progressive House for 3 months.

Since then, a flawless resumé of releases on Bedrock, Sudbeat, The Soundgarden, Movement, Balkan Connection, Flow Vinyl, Pure Progressive and many more creatively exciting labels, has seen Tripswitch’s progressive stock grow exponentially. Chart-topping collaborative studio projects with Nick Warren and Hernán Cattaneo, along with a huge bootleg remix of London Grammar’s ‘Rooting For You’, helped to propel him to the upper reaches of the production cosmos.

Tripswitch’s melodic, emotionally charged, proper progressive DJ sets at amazing events around the world have resulted him gaining a loyal and ever-growing global audience. In 2017 Nick launched his onedotsixtwo label, with its distinct forward-thinking proper progressive ethos. Impeccable curation and the remarkable smash single ‘Voight Kampff’ (courtesy of Tripswitch & Nick Warren) have already seen onedotsixtwo recognised as a ‘Vital Label’ by DJ Mag USA in 2019.

Never one to limit himself creatively, early 2020 saw Tripswitch release ‘Memento Mori’, his hugely anticipated first chillout album in 10 years.
