Welcoming Marco Maldarella to the series, the Bologna-based artist whose multidimensional work spans a solo album on Omen Wapta, collaborations with Christian Duka as MARMO, and visual projects for collectives such as Oakland's Endzeit, all close to our heart and tied together by Marco's creative thread. It was a pleasure finally meeting Marco and witnessing his blistering Scene 3 closing at last year's Positive Education Festival, and an honor to share this eagerly awaited episode. Enter the submerged echo of a long remembered dream, fall into the mirage of a mirror image within the mind. Thanks Marco!

The OQAD label head and Omen Wapta collaborator invites us to peer delicately beyond the edge, unveiling a hyperintense, subsonic blur through which a primordial palette begins to emerge. gi (@gistrung) is a musician from Gadi (Sydney). Her sound blurs the outer limits of drone, idm and techno, interested in how generative sound design and asynchronous repetition can coalesce to create emotional music. Following self-released sketches in 2022, and contributions to compilations by Comic Sans Records (FR), Pure Space (AUS), Twin System (UK), Companion (AUS) she released her debut EP on Altered States Tapes in October 2023 and follow-up liveset EP on Beyond the Bridge (Seoul) in March 2024. In 2024 gi presented her debut album on Absorb (AUS) and launched the World of Knots label, while continuing to refine her unique style of warehouse oriented experimentalism, across live and DJ sets.

Mostra (@mostrabcn) is an independent, small-format festival of avant-garde and experimental electronic music which emerged by the end of 2021 as a counterpoint to the macro-festivals and the overcrowded, commercial and impersonal offerings of other large events held in Barcelona. Mostra will be celebrating its fourth edition from 17 to 20 April in 2025.

This contribution is a very special one, as it marks a new chapter in The Observatory’s sound… 

We will always be a home for ambient and experimental sounds. But, moving forward, we will also be exploring our love for dance music, with a particular focus on the deep end.

To begin this new journey and warm things up, we are so happy to welcome back Timnah, who gifts us with a two-hour recording of her set at Omen Wapta, ADE’24. A mind-bending traversal through ambient, drone, and halftime experiments, exploring the liminal spaces between the listening room and the dance floor.

Timnah lives, works and feeds the cats in the Northwestern extremities of Switzerland. Brought up in her parents’ jazz clubs and deeply influenced by her brother’s love for dub and soundsystem culture, she started DJing just after the massively feared Millenium Bug had threatened to offset our relation to time and space. Dedicated to drawing her own map of late 20th century sonic landscapes, she spent the early 2000s exploring 90s electronics including breakbeat, triphop, ambient techno, drum&bass, house and jungle. After a short but sweet excursion into producing in the early 2010s, Timnah dedicated herself fully to spinning the wheels and transversing genres, gravitating towards her current signature sound that spans immersive sound baths and intergalactic carpet rides in half-time. Timnah is a member of Amenthia Recordings and a recent addition to the A Walking Contradiction Collective.

Drifting into deep and metric realms, Berlin-based Sean H takes over the Further Inward series, flowing through unseen currents and unfolding enigmatic patterns. Guiding us through a weightless dimension, her soundscapes shimmer between realities. A passage not taken, yet always present.

I’m very pleased to welcome Sean to Further Inward. I was blown away by her atmospheric and progressive selections on the Area127 and the Monochrome series, in which she morphs effortlessly between odd rhythmic patterns. I’m excited to have her guide us through this polychromic journey.

I met Yutaro, better known as Toner, last year when I visited Japan. And his appearance at Dommune hit it. It was a no-brainer to invite him for the Cleptu series. Curating his ambient oriented "The Line Shifting to Dots" parties. That focuses on physical deep listening. He will  deconstruct and smudge out the tactile surroundings that will drive your mind into the unknown.
