Memories of making this beat are mad vague and hazy. It was either late 2016 or early 2017, and I was too excited over the sample. Being a very old beat the drums were terribly done, so I've added news drums and balanced out the levels on the sample a bit better.

I’ve been feeling particularly motivated recently, and this verse from M.E.D. off Raid really resonated with me. I was originally trying to put a DOOM acapella over this beat but couldn’t get anything to work, and while I was tryna flip DOOM’s verse on the Raid acapella I thought I’d see how M.E.D.’s verse sounded. I’ve definitely always overlooked this verse because it’s crazy, so to the point and the imagery in his lyrics is mad effective to me (I tried to pick out my favourite examples of that in the visuals for this one). The general outlook of the verse is crazy inspiring, it gives off such a raw energy of focusing on yourself and what you love, no matter what might be around you tryna drag you down or throw you off that path. I was gassed with how this came out, and would definitely like to add a DOOM verse to this in the future, so I left that intro from his Raid vocal so I don’t forget (I’ve got plans to absolutely do something with that on the DOOM album I’m working on, at the moment I’m thinking of doing a beat switch into some hard hitting beat where DOOM just goes crazy hitting all the kicks or something).

I still like how the Biggie verse flows over the beat so I wanted to do something different here (not just re do that mix), and thought the mix of the beat itself could be a lot better, particularly the low end, and the resonance on the snare.

Making this beat I was completely going off of the emotion in the sample, it was actually ridiculously long to flip because I was cutting different parts of one song together. The first 2 bar loop came to me pretty quickly but it took ages to work out the next 2 bars, because I was cutting different sections of the song together, so I had to find notes that made sense with the ones I had already flipped, and continued the melody in a way that made sense musically. It took a long time but I gradually worked it out through trial and error, and I was unbelievably gassed with the melody before I had even added drums to it, which is always a good sign. The loop reminded me of the time I made the beat for Night Time Writing, almost 3 years ago now. That was also a very emotional sample, and the feeling I got when I made that beat is exactly how I felt when I put this one together, like I conveyed the exact emotion through the chops that I wanted. Overall I’m just ridiculously happy with how this beat came out, I put my whole soul into this one, and it was worth all the time and effort for sure.

I originally uploaded this beat with the Hell On Earth acapella over it ( https://soundcloud.com/tapeheadloops/hell-on-earth-remix ), which I still think fits the dark vibe of the beat, but I'm much happier with how this one turned out, particularly the drums: I think the layering I did here does the sample justice, it really is the kind of beat that needs hard hitting booming drums which I think the original upload was lacking, and then once I added those drums on this version, I knew Masta Ace would fit the style perfectly.
