Ever since I made the remix of ‘Back Down’ at the start of the year I was thinking about doing more 50 cent remixes, was mad happy with how that one turned out especially the way his semi singing style of emceeing worked with the melodies from soul samples. Since then I kept finding myself trying out his acapellas over new beats I was making, and kept on finding they fit mad well, so I started saving them and decided to focus on making a remix album. 

Very excited to release it next week, wanted to get it out in time for my brothers birthday on the 17th of April - he's a big fan of 50 cent and really put me onto a lot of the songs I decided to remix here, especially this one. I can't lie I never really thought about remixing 50 cent much before my brother started putting me onto his best tracks, and I defo owe him for that cause 50's style of rapping/singing fits so well with soul samples. 

Ghetto Qu'ran might be one of my favourite tracks by 50 so wanted to do my best with the beat for this remix. The original has a nice feel good vibe so I went for a more deep reflective sort of sound, sampling the film King Kong from 2005 which has the craziest soundtrack. I think it fits the way the track reminisces on the past pretty well. 

I'll be scheduling all the beats from the album on streaming in the next few days, and I'll try and get the YouTube premiere link for the album live at least one day before it releases. Got a lot of mixing to do this week, fully can't wait to share the beats and remixes with everyone, took my time and was a lot more selective with the tracks and I think it paid off. Really looking forward to hearing what people think of the album.

Imo one of the hardest hip hop tracks ever. Big L's verse is sooo bugged it actually blows my mind every time I hear it. The way he’s rapping is so crazy too, fully screaming into the mic, the punchlines are beyond insane. Everyone else kills it too, all the verses are so over the top in the track, just makes it work so well imo, even the two verses I cut out, including the first ever feature from Jay Z – no disrespect to them the flows just weren't fitting right over the beat. Lord Finesse does mad well to pick up after Big Ls crazy hype verse, comes with that more smooth style but still loads of hard hitting lines that keep the energy up. The last two verses I remixed then really bring it back to that mad over the top horrorcore style, especially Party Arty from Ghetto Dwellaz, he has one of the most rugged voices for emceeing: the stuff he did with Showbiz and AG on their album 'Goodfellas' is insane, fully some of the most hardcore hip hop I've ever heard. Will defo be remixing tracks from that album, I highly recommend it, not very well known but without a doubt a classic East Coast bomb.

Thought this was a perfect beat to remix this track, just has that evil vibe which matches the whole vibe of the acapella too well. The way the horns from the original bleed through and blend with the sample I flipped was crazy to me too. The onyx blend over this beat that I tried in the rhythm roulette video was working too, but I remixed that track fairly recently and wanted to go for something with a really evil over the top vibe, and couldn't think of a better example than Da Graveyard.

I was sitting on this beat for years until Distant Cry sent me the snippet I posted on Instagram when I made it asking if I ever dropped it. I almost never post a snippet of a beat and then never drop a beat, and to be honest I'd completely forgotten about this one. Managed to get a cool Onyx remix out of it so I'm defo glad I revisited it. This sample was also absolutely bodied in the Mobb Deep Survival Of The Fittest Remix from the 90s 12" release, definitely check that if you haven't heard it. Peace!!

One of my favourite AZ acapellas, the verses and the hook especially have always been crazy to me, been wanting to remix it for a while but I never felt like I had the right beat. 

When I made this one I had a feeling it would fit well, the vibe just matched the acapella imo, and the flow was a nice fit too. Beat was a lot of fun to flip, loads of layering from across the sample, the subtle harp chops really elevated the vibe for me, and the way the horn chops echo from the end of the loop into the start gives the beat a lot of momentum I think.

For the visuals I used the video for The Come Up, just had to get some nice visuals for this one to bring it to life, I think all the shots of the birds flying really fit the vibe of this remix well, this beat really gives off that sort of imagery to me, the way the horns echo really makes me think of that kind of imagery.

Never Change

This sample reminded me a bit of the keys sampled in Deja Vu, so I thought it would be a good fit for a remix. It has that heavy weight to the sound if that makes sense. If you haven't heard the OG I highly recommend it: Deja Vu is such a classic track, crazy it was never officially released (although Nas did use the first verse on Verbal Intercourse), but the whole vibe of the OG version has always been so dope to me, really ahead of its time too.
