Following on from how much we enjoyed putting out the recent Fear of Men release, we have decided to make the flexizine (a 7” flexidisc record accompanied by a 20 page zine) a quarterly fixture. With no further ado, it gives us great pleasure to introduce issue 2. The new EP from Bournemouth based 5 piece The Death of Pop.

Made up of three brothers and two cousins, The Death of Pop produce the sort of well-polished sound you’d expect from a tight knit family unit. We have long admired their jangley shoegaze from afar, but it was only when they sent us a lovely cassette demo did we finally make acquaintance. Opening track ‘Whenever’ picks up where excellent previous single ‘Sun in my Eyes’ left off. Dueling guitars, blissful summery melodies and a magic carpet ride of fuzz and distortion.

Here is Mirage, track two on the EP and the track which we have committed to vinyl. Once again it's a shoegazing stunner whilst the EP’s further three tracks are testament to The Death of Pop’s ability to consistently craft jangle pop masterpieces that engulf you in a glowing warmth.

As previously mentioned, the EP is set to be released on a lovely blue transparent 7” flexidisc accompanied by a 20 page magazine. The flexidisc will feature the sub-6-minute drones of track 2 Mirage and a download code for the full EP will be included with the magazine. We have elected to release music in this format as we were getting a bit frustrated with the standard 7” release and realised we could be giving you a bit more for your money.

The Death Of Pop - Mirage

Sleeperhold Publications would like to present you with the newest installment on the platform: a series of 10 vinyl records. Every record will have sound on the A-side and an etching on the B-side. We are very proud to launch the first recording of 10: 

The magnificent MOON DUO recorded a killer, 21 minute long, track called "High Over Blue", which we then pressed on heavy black vinyl, with an etching on the back. The sleeve design an etching on this one was done by ward Heirwegh. The record is limited to 200 copies and can be ordered from the Sleeperhold website. (http://www.sleeperholdpublications.com)

Moon Duo was formed by Ripley Johnson of Wooden Shjips and Sanae Yamada in San Francisco in 2009. Inspired initially by free jazz duos, such as John Coltrane and Rashied Ali, Moon Duo counts such variant groups as Silver Apples, Royal Trux, Moolah, Suicide, and Cluster as touchstones. Utilizing primarily guitar, keyboards, and vocals, the Duo plays space against form to create a primeval sound experience.

Celebrating Light In The Attic's 10 year anniversary in 2012, we are releasing a series of very special colored vinyl 7”s and digital downloads. The series features contemporary artists covering a track reissued by Light In The Attic on the A-side, plus the original version on the B-side. 

To launch the series, we asked Los Angeles-based scuzzy punks Zig Zags, whose debut 7" came out on Mexican Summer earlier this year, to team up with legendary punk rock icon Iggy Pop (yes, THAT Iggy Pop!). With this, we give you Iggy Pop and Zig Zags' take on Betty Davis' "If I'm In Luck I Might Get Picked Up" from her self-titled debut album (LITA 026).  

Digging deep into the grooves of the original, Zig Zags discovered a secret heavy Sabbath vibe lurking just below the funk surface. Mixing that with their usual sludge-punk leanings, the god-like Iggy Pop was brought in to sing. A natural choice. 

A side was recorded by Dan Horne (Beachwood Sparks), mixed by Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Pernice Bros, Devendra Banhart), and mastered by Dave Cooley (Elysian Masters). B side features the original 1973 Betty Davis recording as remastered by Dave Cooley in 2007.

Sun In My Eyes

It’s time to take your musical pre- (and mis-) conceptions and check them at the door. Form, melody, rhythm, chords: these words represent nothing but rules, barriers and walls which only serve to limit the places where “music” can exist or reach towards. Eric Kesner couldn’t care less about anyone’s predetermined ideas about what music is or should be. True Colour Of Blood’s music can best be described as “Ambient”, “Dark Ambient” or “Drone” but manages to break even the rules (if there are any such thing) of those genres by making music with only guitars instead of the usual array of synths and samplers. 
Since the mid 1990s True Colour Of Blood has been creating Dark Ambient/Ambient/Drone soundscapes and is recognized as one of the originators of the guitar based style.   TCoB has released six critically acclaimed albums and multiple compilation appearances on such labels as Hypnos (US), Gears Of Sand (US), Eibon (Italy), Slo Bor Media (US), Afe (Italy), Waterscape (Germany), Dreamland (Australia) and Soulworm Editions (Poland).
The latest release ‘15 Years Of Guitar Drones’ was released in March 2012 as a digital download (available at over 100 digital stores worldwide) and as the title suggests is a compilation of the first fifteen years of True Colour Of Blood.  Ranging from the first recording in 1996 (Fear Itself) up to a 2011 compilation appearance (Deny The Prophecy).  ’15 Years’ includes tracks from each TCoB album as well as unreleased, live and compilation appearances showing the progression from the early grinding, monotonous guitar slabs to shoegazer influenced guitar ambience to the ominous and minimalist hypnotic guitar drones.
