We're not even close to recovering from the sonic assault of Technique's twentieth-anniversary 'Remix LP' but the follow-up strike is already upon us. We've seen classics from the back cat get the treatment from the likes of A.M.C, Bladerunner, Marky and Digital, but now it's all about looking to the future. With ten brand new killer tunes, the Technique Recordings gang are already setting a benchmark for 2020.

And, judging by this album, the picture of what's to come is multi-hued and multi-faceted.

The break-focused future-jungle tear-out of Drumsound & Bassline Smith's 'Ruffneck Soldier' – already a tried and tested deejay weapon on dub – sits alongside the cinematic expanse of L Plus's 'The Planet' and the controlled aggression of NC-17 and Exile's 'War'.

As if to emphasise the variety, No Concept's Kerizma-laced 'Electrify' rubs shoulders with Tantrum Desire and Youngman's 'Precision', offering us a horror-influenced stomper and a soul-meets-staccato dancefloor workout respectively. And that's before we even get into the contribution from DJSS, 'Only Get Better', blending subtlety and savagery in equal measure.

This is Technique's 2020 vision, setting out a blueprint for the type of beat and bassline science that's going to be lighting up drum 'n' bass dancefloors over the coming months. Building on the hard-earned legacy of twenty years in the business, their next two decades in the top tier start right here. Essential.

To Armin van Buuren, the sound of music has become a natural high, a sanctuary, and the stimulus in life. With each year of his career passing, his role in electronic dance music has become more important. If anything, he inspires music lovers with his weekly radio show. Based on that show, is the annual compilation series, loved and anticipated by fans, music lovers and dance addicts. 2014 is going to be a year to remember for the Dutch DJ and his fans. Within the course of 6 weeks, he’ll celebrate the 650th episode of the A State of Trance radio show with no less than 9 events in cities all across the globe. Far he had fallen, ripped from his brother’s side by and cast into the formless depths of the astral plane. He had fallen swiftly into the yawning cavern of his own mind, tumbling through deep within, through a chaos that cried in shifting unison as he fought to cling to reason. Brief silhouettes of the triumphs he had shared with his brother flashed swiftly across his inner eye, each victorious moment draped in cold darkness as he fell deeper into that horrid realm; the euphoria that coated his memories dissolving into nothingness as he grasped at the shadows of their promised salvation. Beneath him lay only a vast umber, formless and infinite, he felt the growing presence of that most isolated oubliette, from which malevolence and despair radiated like heat from scorched earth. In a staunch refusal to be defeated, he flung his hand outwards, seeking solace in a final moment of defiance against the eternal condemnation that threatened to swallow him, as the dark shroud of souls washed up against his body.

It reached down wrapped in silence, his brothers hand, the glowing exuberance of its life penetrating the void through which he fell. Grasping for his own hand with the synergistic strength that only one other could provide. Its strength, its life force, carried him upwards towards his deliverance. The darkness around him began to fade, the filthy souls of the chaos below slipping downwards and away from him, but his brother’s form was still obscured. He yearned most of all to stand beside him once more, to overcome this trial together as they always had done, their fight against mortality not insurmountable as every other pitfall of life had been. Pinpoints of light shone through ahead, fragments of the astral realm that lay above the calming natural darkness of his own, the bleak impossible cousin of the world he had fallen through and ascended from anew. The threshold between the abyss and their old world lay ahead. As they passed through, the brothers emerged side by side, ready to stand unified against the forces that had attempted to tear apart their bond. They moved with force, tearing themselves their own path through the strength of their synergy. Beyond the threshold, they stood in awe, delivered from the abyss, trembling as the connection between them pulsed anew.

Beyond the reach of both time & space lay a land not bound by such restrictive rules, in which all manner of phenomena beyond that of the material ordinary were possible. Within this distant realm the so called “laws” of nature disobeyed themselves, warping the perceptions of any who had managed to successfully undertake the multiplanar journey to reach its impossible location. Herein, stone grew with the vivacity of plants through air that seemed to surround any being with an aberrant curiosity, as though inquisitive of what sought to inhale its essence. The waters of the world, such as they were, provided a more sturdy footing that that of the tumultuous earth from which gouts of flame occasionally appeared, perfectly inert as though frozen in time.

Whilst the journey could be made, true navigation through this plane was impossible for beings of the human material plain as evidenced by the seemingly mummified figures that occasionally appeared across its lands. Prisoners of endless age, their bodies held the positions of their final waking moments, trapped halfway through motions & expressions that would never find completion. Their faces bore no pain, their bodies no wounds. The sounds of their ends, it was said, were all of the evidence that they had passed. Within these ABSTRACT PLACES, such dying cries reverberated endlessly, each adding their own sonic character to the quiet din of death that filled the air.

JOE FORD makes his Eatbrain debut with ABSTRACT PLACES, his first solo release both on the label and since his 2018 LP Colours in Sound. LUMBERING BEAST opens the EP upon the roaring tonalities of its gargantuan bassline, backed by the determined strides of its steady drumbeat. THE END decries an apocalyptic demise with its sinister synth arpeggio and the rending sweeps of its bassline, which cleave through the track with unparalleled might. URGENCY wastes no time in rushing to fill the void left by its predecessor, speeding forth with a torrent of snares surrounded by an electrified sonic atmosphere. WAR MARCH issues the command to surrender in the face of its unrestrained might, before delivering a bassline barrage that closes the EP with finality. With ABSTRACT PLACES, JOE FORD holds nothing back across his first four track appearance on the EATBRAIN label.

MIZO debuts his latest single release on NEUROPUNK RECORDS with NRPNK003: HELLHOUND / MECHANICAL PAW. As one of Russia’s premier DNB producers, MIZOs works have seen recent releases on labels such as Eatbrain, Cause4Concern, and Blackout whilst deeper in his catalogue lies a connection with Tamrecords, the predecessor label NEUROPUNK RECORDS. Now returning to these longstanding roots, MIZO brings a furious single release to the NEUROPUNK label that bristles with his hard edged sound.
MECHANICAL PAW then brings to bear a slew of tech focused sonics on the back of a rapid cyclical bassline melody, hurtling the track forwards at impossible velocity alongside a menagerie of warped vocals and distorted tones.

Created beyond the reach of time was a being of singular purpose and identity, unknowable to those who dwelt within the presence of that same ever-flowing universal force. Its existence predated the creation of their universe, an event it had watched carefully with its many eyes focused upon that which took its fancy. Aloof as it was, it took interest in the most pivotal figures of that little universe, guiding their paths with nonchalant ease as they went about heroic lives within their insignificant realms. Their greatest triumphs, their most harrowing failures, the beginnings and endings of their myriad tales: all such were born of the fleeting desires of the being which lay beyond their minuscule conception.

Those minuscule creatures had given the being many names in their many languages and portrayed its form in innumerable fashions, each uniquely fantastic and decidedly far from the truth. The being cared not of these misinterpretations however, finding instead a humor in their inability to even scratch at the surface of its incomprehensible existence. Its true title was after all for them impossible to pronounce, and thus the being held a detached amusement for the names it had been given. In times long past it had been fate, providence and even kismet, but in this new age of their world such archaic titles held little meaning, and the being styled itself around a term it found most peculiar, guiding their world under the name of SELECTA.

Amidst a vast lattice of cable & wire, a sole individual worked with inhuman fervour at his craft, bearing forth a constant flow of invention unto the dismal depths of his laboratory. He had sequestered himself here in this catacomb of creation with single-minded purpose, devoted entirely to a code of his own as he endeavoured towards all that had not been done before. Without thought for life or limb he set himself frantically to his craft. Before him, every vial was an opportunity, every electrical surge a moment of bliss, and every elemental synthesis a pathway forwards into the unknown.

For weeks, months, and even years the individual worked at a feverish pace, a hermit within an ever growing den of discarded reagents and the husks of former inventions repurposed for a greater cause. For all of his creations, such time alone had begun to take its toll upon the man, and as it marched on new thoughts came to his mind. “Escape....” came first, “I must show them the way” then came second, bearing upon him with an inescapable force. With his frenzy now turned outwards the inventor burst forth from the doors of his laboratory, clutching a variety of inventions in his grasp. Bathed in the light of the world beyond, the inventor sprinted into the street, shouting of his miracles as his SANITY TRIP drove his feet.

NUKLEAR debuts his first full artist EP on EATBRAIN with SANITY TRIP. Long known as a premiere MC within the neurofunk scene, NUKLEAR has appeared on multiple collaborations across EATBRAIN as well as RAM Records, Virus, and Viper. In bringing together many influences such as the heavy metal sonics of WHIPLASH, SANITY TRIP sees NUKLEAR bring the focus firmly to his own dynamic lyrical abilities across five tracks with an equally diverse lineup of co-conspirators including MINDSCAPE, PYTHIUS, STATE OF MIND, TEDDY KILLERZ, THE CLAMPS, & KRITIX.
