Bratislava-based L Plus has proved over a string of heavy-duty releases that Slovakians can do D&B too. His most recent offering, the “Amazing” EP firmly established him as a major asset to the scene with an ear for the classic elements of rave music, and an uncanny talent for building an atmospheric soundscape.

And now, he's flexing those skills again in this release.

“Faces” is a perfect example of what is fast-becoming the signature L Plus style. Arpeggiated keys and gentle melodic patterns lead into a speeded-up vocal sample which harks back to nineties lighters-in-the-air moments. And then, just like rave music in the early nineties, it all goes hardcore, building into a drop that delivers powerful bass and digital bleep-riffs. Even with the madness that ensues, L Plus never loses sight of the melodic underpinning of the track, creating a monster that reintroduces the power of early raving for modern parties. And, just in case you want to ease your audience in to this sound more gently, he provides a Radio Edit to educate the mainstream.

The other track on this release is “Heavy Mental”. This is a masterclass in building and releasing tension. The intro rises and rises, using wide pads punctuated by percussive stabs to signpost things to come. Then a further lift is provided by a ladder of chords which leads straight into an explosive drop that throws a wall of energy in your face. Interplay between high and low end, melody combined with aggression, all contribute towards a tune that's a guaranteed dancefloor filler.

So, L Plus has brought his special brand of twenty-first century rave music back for another outing. “Faces” and “Heavy Mental” are tunes that will grace the sets of history-literate DJs everywhere.

Massive tracks like “Weirdo”, laced by unlikely guest star Bizarre from D12, and “Grave Digga”, plus huge deejay sets at events like Fabriclive and Let it Roll have firmly established No Concept's rave-wrecking credentials. And now they're back with a brand new EP.

The eponymous opening track of “Showdown” might just be the most epic sound we've heard from No Concept so far. Right down to the “In a world...” narration, this is uncompromisingly cinematic, with a synth orchestra teaming up with touches of classic breaks to build the hype. Then the drop throws us straight into the middle of sonic warfare, with huge waves of bass striking against concrete-hard drums.

Then, with “Gets Me High”, No Concept switch to hands-in-the-air mode. The rising arpeggios, uplifting chords, and building harmonies in the intro suit the big room perfectly, but that's not all this track has to offer. The drop manages to blend heavyweight bass and steel toecap drums into the euphoric musicality, meaning this is going to hit hard wherever it's played. Big tune.

“Wot U Gna Do” is unmissable. Selectors from across the spectrum are going to love this one. The intro gets us hooked immediately, as immediately-recognisable riffs and vocals grab our attention. After a build that you're almost certainly going to be wheeling, No Concept swing a mighty wrecking-ball of a drop at us. Deploying the stripped-back aggression of grotty jump-up melodies, combined with serious levels of bass-weight and twisted timbre-manipulation, this is dangerous.

Finally, we get “Fire Riddim”. Opening with one of the expansively dramatic intros that No Concept have made a trademark on this EP, the tune is driven by metronomic pizzicato stabs, while keys and brass prophesy viciousness to come. The nitroglycerine drop hits hard, with rock-solid bass and beats to make the dance move. It's the way the melodic elements fluctuate into unpredictable patterns, though, that keeps this vital and engaging to the end. Explosive material.

It's clear that there's no such thing as a “typical” No Concept tune. Capable of light and shade, filth and melody, every time these producers bring out new music, the only thing we can predict is that they'll find a way to surprise us. And that their tunes will take the roof off wherever they're played.

With a genre-expanding debut album and a slew of heavily-supported dancefloor destroyers in his discography, L Plus has been one of the leading lights of Technique's roster for some time now. Known to smash it as a selector – both in the rave and on stream – he's repeatedly proven he's got the knack of turning technical studio science into pure organic vibe and connection with his audience.

So, time to pay attention to 'The Orion'.

Immediately, we're off and running. Percussive hits and arpeggios set the pace, as layers of melody and harmony build and expand to epic levels. A hands-in-the-air riff joins the party, augmented by the ominous spectre of bass that's begun to creep in. Then, the looping, spiralling final approach to the drop sets us up for the knockout blow.

Mayhem ensues. L Plus hits us with intersecting polyrhythmic elements, the atmosphere continually evolving as new tones and timbres vie for our attention. This producer handles even this complexity with a masterful restraint, though. Multiple musical strands are entwined with apparent effortlessness, but, trust, delivering this level of musicality and hard-hitting rave vibes requires an expert's touch.

This is another heavyweight tune from the Technique Recordings soldier. And, with an ever-growing army of fans and a lot more music where this came from, it's clear this is L Plus's time to shine. Watch out.
